As a Technical Support Officer, you will play a pivotal role in safeguarding public and animal health at the Port of Belfast (PoB), Border Control Post. Your responsibilities include providing critical support in adhering to UK, NI, and EU legislation governing the protection of public health and animal welfare. Working closely with Environmental Health Officers (EHOs) and various regulatory bodies, you will ensure compliance with rigorous standards while facilitating the smooth flow of imported goods.

**Your Duties**:

- Your duties will encompass a wide array of tasks, from conducting documentary and seal checks to processing transshipment release requests.

**Key responsibilities include**:

- Conducting preliminary ID checks on high-risk products and advising on irregularities.
- Assisting in physical checks and sampling of high-risk foodstuffs.
- Ensuring accurate record-keeping and database management using Information Management Systems.
- Collaborating with relevant authorities to ensure compliance with legislative requirements.
- Participating in health and safety assessments and risk management activities.
- Motivating and managing assigned staff, overseeing training programs, and ensuring service excellence.

**Your Profile**:
**Essential Criteria**:

- Possess a full, current driving license and access to transport for official business use.
- Special Skills and Attributes
- Proficiency in technical and legislative aspects of food safety and standards.
- Strong report writing and IT skills (word processing, spreadsheets, databases).
- Excellent communication and customer care abilities.
- Effective work planning and organizational skills.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.

**Short-listing Criteria**:

- At least one year of relevant experience as a food law enforcement officer or working with food safety management systems.
- At least two year of relevant experience in a similar role.

**Additional Information**:

- Location: Port Health Unit, Belfast.
- 37 Hours per week.
- Working Hours between 07:00-23:30.
