What is speaking up? It’s about speaking up about anything that gets in the way of doing a great job, and encouraging a positive culture where people feel their voices are heard.

Due to the size and geographical spread of the organisation, the Trust seeks to expand its Speak Up resource by appointing a Deputy Speak Up Guardian to work alongside the current Lead Speak Up Guardian in providing an alternative route for staff to speak up in confidence.

The successful applicant may have contact with patients or service users. As an NHS Trust we strongly encourage and support vaccination as this remains the best way to protect yourself, your family, your colleagues and of course patients and service users when working on our healthcare settings.

The Deputy Speak Up Guardian will support the development and continuous strengthening of a strong and open speaking up culture, handle concerns with integrity, confidentiality, and tenacity. They will be a visible figure visiting sites and meeting staff right across the Trust and be accessible to all staff, students, contract workers and volunteers.

You will work closely with the Lead Speak up Guardian and a network Speak Up Staff Governor Champions who voluntarily promote and support awareness raising across the workforce about speaking up safely.

For this role CNWL is looking for an approachable and confident person who will be able to proactively and independently develop our Speak Up offer to staff. Empathy, impartiality and excellent listening skills are also essential traits for this role. You will be responsible for ensuring individuals receive thanks and support for speaking up and receive feedback on the actions taken.

As the voice for our workforce, alongside and supporting the Lead Speak Up Guardian you will ensure the Board and Executive team are fully sighted on all main themes and issues raised through the Speak Up service - producing reports on the number and types of cases raised, any barriers to speaking up, and detail of opportunities for learning and improvement.
