An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the new Operational Finance team at University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust as Head of Trust Financial Accounts.

The post holder will be responsible for supporting in achieving delivery of corporate financial strategy and organisational objectives.

Reporting directly to the Assistant Director of Finance - Financial Accounts, the post holder will be a key member of the Finance Team and support the Assistant Director of Finance in ensuring the impacts of changes in the NHS financial operating environment are understood and modelled, risks identified and analysed and use of resources is understood and maximised.

In addition the post holder will deputise for the Assistant Director of Finance - Financial Accounts, as appropriate, providing leadership and demonstrating expert accounting and business knowledge, analytical support and clear presentation of complex financial and other information to clinical and non-clinical colleagues.

This role will support with enhancing relationships between internal and external stakeholders including clinical divisions, corporate departments, regulators and other external bodies.

**This role will be responsible for**:

- Ensuring the efficiency, effectiveness, integrity and business focus of financial systems and processes;
- Investigating and advising on highly complex issues;
- Promoting a culture of continuous improvement in the Finance Department.

The Head of Trust Financial Accounts will work as a member of the senior finance management team alongside the Assistant Director of Finance
- Financial Accounts and other senior officers in the finance team.

Main

**Responsibilities**:
Communication
- Production of highly complex financial reports to be presented at public meetings and various internal meetings communicating Trust financial performance, reasons for underlying performance and actions being taken to address any under-performance. Reports may also require the explanation of highly complex technical accounting concepts in ways that can be understood by non-financial managers and members of the public.
- Responding to complaints or claims and explaining the Trust’s position in relation to these matters, including when a request for compensation is denied and the reasons for denial of the claim.

Service Delivery and Improvement
- Develop financial policies across the areas of functional responsibility in the Directorate.
- Budget holder for own areas of Finance Directorate and responsible for physical asset security in those areas.
- Undertakes and oversees audits of own areas of responsibility.

People Management and Development
- Line manager within Financial Accounts team responsible for full range of employee management include appeals following employee relations hearings.
- Input into the development and delivery of financial training for specific areas of responsibility.
- Contribute to operation of the Trust through involvement in senior management forums and multi-disciplinary working groups.
