The Chief Technology Officer will be responsible for developing and delivering a strategy and vision to ensure that the corporate IT infrastructure is “fit for purpose” to ensure the operational delivery of effective IT and Information Services and the Corporate IT and Clinical Applications are developed and Integrated in line with the strategic needs of the business for University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust and the Other Supported Organisations. The post holder will play a prominent role in organisational development and strategic leadership, business change, and championing new and transformational ways of working within the IM&T Service.

The post holder will be responsible for the management of the Information Technology Infrastructure and Development functions within the Trust.

The post holder will lead dynamic teams to ensure that the corporate IM&T service provides support to the Trust.
- Provide corporate strategic IM&T leadership to the IM&T Department and expert advice on healthcare IM&T to the Trust.
- Provide professional leadership for the wider Informatics community within the Trust and for all aspects of IM&T throughout the organisation.
- Maintain knowledge of emerging technology solutions to ensure that the Trust continues to take advantage of new systems and technologies as appropriate for improving patient care and efficient resource utilisation.
- Identify and proactively manage all risks affecting various IM&T infrastructure and development projects and services to minimise their impact, ensuring appropriate mitigation is planned and implemented.
- Plan, manage and oversee the IT and Communications Infrastructure to ensure its optimum performance and availability.
- Ensure the Trust has appropriate physical, environmental and system-level security for its systems and assets.
- Work with specialist staff in information and infrastructure security to produce strategies, policy and plans for handling security issues.

Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, as well as ‘Priority’ and 'At Risk' status including NHS at Risk staff throughout Devon who is able to display recent relevant experience as dictated by the Person Specification.

The post holder will be responsible for the management of the Information Technology Infrastructure and Development functions within the Trust.

The post holder will lead dynamic teams to ensure that the corporate IM&T service provides support to the Trust.

**Key aspects of the role will be to**:

- Engage pro-actively with stakeholders.
- Ensure effective IT service management and supplier management.
- Provide assurance that IM&T services are secure and compliant with relevant legislation.
- Support organisational change, innovation and excellence.
- Support the Director in the drive for reform and support organisational change, innovation and excellence.
- Support the Trust’s long and short term strategic intentions by developing the infrastructure and capacity.
- Provide expertise of best practice methodologies, regulatory requirements, policy imperatives, innovation and technological developments.
- Manage key risks.
- Ensure good financial management, including service recharging where appropriate, asset management and budget management.
- Lead the management of all of the departments within the IM&T Infrastructure and Development services.

The role is responsible for supporting the delivery of IT systems and supporting the planning of related change programmes in order to enable service transformation, thus maximising the benefits from investment and improving healthcare.

The role will have autonomy to lead and manage the development and delivery of local IT Infrastructure and Development strategies, programmes and services. They will also contribute to local, regional and national strategies, programmes, and service management, taking a leading role where appropriate.
