The Department of Anaesthesia at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust wishes to expand its existing team of Anaesthesia Associates, by appointing two highly motivated, proactive individuals who wish to train and qualify as Anaesthesia Associates. The standards of training are high and demanding on individuals to ensure a high calibre of Anaesthesia Associate graduate.

The role is being offered on an Annexe 21 basis, Band 7. This equates to 65% top step point of Band 7 for months 1-3 of the post, 70% top step point Band 7 for months 4-15 and 75% top step point of Band 7 for months 16 - 27. Following qualification in month 27, the post holder will be paid at the entry step point of Band 7.

Main duties of the job

You will develop skills in pain management, ultrasound, vascular access, emergency airway management and deep sedation. Upon qualification and satisfactory performance, we anticipate that the post-holders would continue in a permanent Anaesthesia Associate post at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust. The post will be challenging and varied, and it is envisaged that the scope of practice will broaden considerably over the coming years.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

**Role & responsibilities**:

- The post holder will be accountable for their own professional actions whilst working under the supervision of consultant anaesthetists. On qualification, the Anaesthesia Associate is required to register on the managed Voluntary Register of the Royal College of Anaesthetists. It is anticipated that regulation of Anaesthesia Associates will fall within the remit of the General Medical Counsel (GMC) from late 2023.
- To develop and improve services, e.g. by participation in audit, divisional meetings, and CPD.

**Clinical duties & responsibilities**:

- To assist in the provision and development of a safe, effective and efficient anaesthetic service and to support the Trust in its aim to provide the best possible care to patients.
- To provide anaesthetic services to include, delivering anaesthesia, monitoring and maintaining the condition of patients, and under supervision conduct the induction and emergence from anaesthesia.
- To administer drugs for anaesthetic induction and maintenance, intra-operative fluids, post-operative analgesia and anti-emetics under the direction of a consultant anaesthetist.
- To plan anaesthetic provision within a prescribed framework.
