**Job Purpose**
We are looking for a dynamic individual who will be responsible for the identification, development and implementation of new industrial and collaborative Knowledge Exchange (KE) opportunities associated with one of the five research themes listed below. This post will contribute to the delivery of the University’s ambitious new £3.2m Engineering and Physical Sciences (EPSRC) Impact Acceleration Account (IAA) and so further the strategic aims and ambitions of the College of Science and Engineering (CoSE).
The associate will be dedicated to one of the following thematic areas:

- Communications, Sensing and Imaging
- Data Science and Artificial Intelligence
- Autonomous Systems
Applicants should specify in their covering letter which area they would like to focus on, and explain why they are suited to undertaking the Knowledge Exchange Associate role for that theme.
The aim of the role is to deliver high quality impact through the stimulation of knowledge exchange activity by facilitating relationships between the University and external organisations such companies, as well as prospective partners in the public sector, third sector, and government. The focus of the role will comprise of identifying and cultivating new external partners, developing and supporting the delivery of innovative projects, and helping to secure funding for those projects. The role involves developing relationships internally within the university with academic researchers and externally with relevant stakeholders leading to new opportunities to realise impactful outcomes based on EPSRC funded research.

**Main Duties and Responsibilities**
1. Work closely with the CoSE researchers within the chosen theme to establish the priority areas for potential growth and opportunities for collaboration with industry and other external partners.
2. Develop and execute an operational plan to include a targeted programme of KE activity, communications and engagement with industry and other potential partners.
3. Develop marketing materials for web and events to raise the profile of the group’s activities, facilities and outputs.
4. Identify and attend key industry events to develop strong network of partners and share contacts with academic and KE colleagues.
5. Build effective relationships and undertake visits to companies, relevant business intermediaries and other innovation support organisations as part of the engagement process.
6. Identify sources of knowledge exchange funding and support the development and writing of project funding proposals with industry and academic partners.
7. Identify opportunities for new industry collaborations and convert these into contracts working closely with the business development and industry engagement colleagues.
8. Promote the research expertise within the group in providing research services, technologies, consultancy and courses to industry.
9. Work with other KE Associates and the Business Development team to share best practice, learning and collaboration prospects inside and outside of own technology theme area.
10. Record and report upon IAA outputs, outcomes and impacts internally within the university and externally to funders.
11. Contribute to the development of a library of successful project case studies.

**Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience**

**Knowledge/Qualifications**

**Essential**:

A1 Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 9, (Ordinary Degree, Scottish Vocational Qualification level 4), or equivalent (including professional accreditation with relevant formal training), and experience of personal development in a similar or related role(s).
A2 Good working knowledge of research in one of the research themes.

**Essential**:

E1 Typically 3 years recent relevant research and Knowledge Exchange experience with qualifications, or 7-10 years’ experience without qualifications
E2 Experience of writing funding proposals and project planning, and track record of leading the development and delivery of successful projects.
E3 Experience of working with external partners and developing relationships.

**Desirable**:

F1 Knowledge of the research/Knowledge Exchange funding environment (Scottish, UK, international).
F2 Relevant experience gained within the Higher Education sector.
