**Job Purpose**-This will include:

- Developing the capacity of social science researchers to explore research and engagement with the public sector.
- Maximising opportunities for collaborative research, development and innovation between social scientists and public sector partners.
- Proactively engaging with public sector partners in areas that are strategically aligned with College research strengths.

**Main Duties and Responsibilities**
Perform the following activities as appropriate:

1. Act as dedicated point of contact for selected Schools, coordinating and delivering targeted support for social scientists to build their skills, capabilities and confidence in engagement and knowledge exchange with public sector partners.
2. Take a leading role in the strategic development and delivery of training for research staff across the College in all aspects of engagement, knowledge exchange and impact.
3. Proactively engage with public sector organisations that are strategically aligned with the College of Social Science's research strengths, facilitating discussions with potential/existing academic collaborators to construct mutually-beneficial projects and programmes (e.g. identifying opportunities to adapt and amplify research outputs in order to inform policy debates).
4. Support researchers by holding responsibility for public sector relationships, developing strong relationships with key organisations and exercising judgement in encouraging the timely development of new activity.
5. Work in partnership with the Operations and Research Development teams to provide one-to-one support to researchers preparing funding bids in collaboration with public sector partners.
6. Promote the College's successes in public sector engagement, ensuring that successful projects and partnerships are visible in the most effective spaces, and representing the University, as required, in appropriate public fora, including policy engagement meetings and events.
7. Act as a key contributor in the broader College Research Support Office team to identify opportunities to improve the organisational profile and capability to deliver on College and University KPIs in Research and Knowledge Exchange.

**Essential**:

A1 Degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline with evidence of continued professional development in an area relevant to the role.
A2 Understanding of academic environments including the complex mix of opportunities, constraints and motivations of academic staff, schools, research institutes, the College, and the Institution.
A3 Knowledge of research and knowledge exchange users, partners, collaborators and funders in the social sciences.
A4 Understanding of the research and knowledge exchange funding landscape relevant to developing public sector collaborative research in the social sciences.

**Desirable**:

B1 Knowledge of public policy issues and processes relevant to social science research.

**Skills**

**Experience**

**Essential**:

E1 Significant experience of a policy engagement, knowledge exchange or relevant research role.
E2 Experience of facilitating dialogues between researchers and policy actors to establish common goals and interests.
E3 Experience of successfully developing a portfolio of funded, collaborative projects with public sector partners.
E4 Track record of developing and delivering innovative solutions to policy/social science engagement in collaborative projects.

**Desirable**:

F1 Previous experience of working with users of research beyond academia.

**Terms and Conditions**
Salary will be Grade 7, £38,474 - £43,155 per annum.
This post is full time (35 hours per week) and open ended.
