Crofting is a traditional system of smallholdings unique to certain areas of Scotland, particularly the Highlands and Islands which brings a range of benefits including helping sustain rural communities, supporting biodiversity, and low intensity, small scale food production. Crofting is underpinned by the Crofters (Scotland) Act 1993 and the Crofting Reform Scotland (2010) Act.
