The Grange is seeking to recruit an Assistant Finance Bursar (office based) on a full time, full year contract working 8:30am - 5:00pm. Salary Circa. £35,000 per annum

**Summary of Role**
- To ensure that all financial transactions are processed accurately and in a timely manner and assist in the production of meaningful management accounts and financial reports.
- To contribute as a member of the small, busy bursary team providing financial support for teaching staff, support staff, parents and pupils.
- To manage a small team of Finance Assistants, supporting their development.
- To carry out relevant duties as directed by the Finance Bursar and to undertake these duties in a helpful, positive and flexible manner with a ‘can do’ approach.
- To demonstrate an understanding of the importance of teamwork and be prepared to use their initiative.
- To deputise for the Finance Bursar in their absence

**Responsibilities**
- To produce monthly management accounts: Identification and posting of accruals and prepayments. Analysis and communication of variances against budget and forecast to departmental budget-holders.
- Banking Control: Monthly bank reconciliations and day to day monitoring of bank accounts, transferring funds to maximise interest received and minimise interest paid. Ensuring that all bank and cash transactions are processed promptly to ledgers.
- To assist in the preparation of annual statutory accounts and supporting audit file for external audit.
- Carry out key control account reconciliations and ledger month-end routines
- Control Accounts: weekly, monthly or termly reconciliation of all control accounts as appropriate. Recording of transactions for cost recovery centres such as school trips and reporting of balances.
- Control of expenditure: Management of the annual requisition process ensuring that expenditure is in line with internal guidance, and that best value is obtained for the school when placing orders. To facilitate the provision of required materials to departments to agreed deadlines. To oversee the ordering of equipment for all departments within the school, completing appropriate requisitions, following up of orders, arranging for delivery and ensuring that delivery agrees to order and invoice.
- To collate information and prepare schedules to support annual budgets; Income & Expenditure, Balance Sheet & Cash-flow.
- Termly depreciation calculations and fixed asset analysis.
- VAT returns and advising colleagues on appropriate VAT treatment of transactions
- To monitor the day-to-day processing workload allocating tasks to ensure that routine deadlines are met.
- Take responsibility for financial reporting from and reconciliation of cashless catering and ParentPay systems
- Oversight of the processing of fees invoicing and debt reporting.
- Oversight of the purchase ledger processing and purchase ordering systems,
- Oversight of the financial administration of trips; collecting payments from pupils and ensuring that internal procedures are adhered to and that all costs are adequately controlled.
- Reporting on catering profitability liaising with catering managers to understand reasons for variances.
- Processing of transactions for commercial hires of school facilities, producing management reports.
- Dealing with telephone enquiries from parents and outside agencies, and taking subsequent action as required.
- Involvement in process and control improvement activity alongside the Finance Bursar
- Other administration/bursary duties as requested by the Finance Bursar e.g. dealing with pupils, parents, school visitors, covering for absent staff for signing for deliveries and subsequent checking of delivery notes, dealing with petty cash.

**The Person**
- At least 3 years’ experience in a similar role.
- At least AAT qualified or equivalent.
- Confidential and discreet.
- Ability to deal with all calls and visitors in a professional manner.
- Be an advanced user of Microsoft Excel and Word.
- To use initiative and take ownership of tasks.
- Be able to meet deadlines with a calm approach.
- To enjoy working as a team player.
- Approach workload with flexibility
