Pre-operative Assessment Coordinator

To undertake the clerical aspects of the Pre-operative assessment duties associated with the Trauma and Orthopedic Directorate. To manage the medical records of patients attending pre-operative clinics, including retrieval and storage. To deal with patients and external and internal staff enquiries in person or via the telephone, in a courteous and confidential manner and provide assistance as required. To keep a log of telephone requests for investigations in line with department policy, prioritising these and ensuring messages are conveyed to the appropriate technical staff.

To obtain and prepare notes in readiness for clinics, investigations or at the request of staff within the Department. To understand the 18 Week Pathway, input the correct RTT codes and validate the patient pathway where appropriate. To liaise with Secretaries and other departments within the Trust as necessary to ensure case notes, X-rays and referrals are available for every patient attending a Pre-operative Assessment. To cancel and re-book appointments as necessary, assessing each individual requirement to establish priority and need for the overbooking of clinics.

To ensure that patients are placed onto the waiting list as appropriate, and checks are made for short notice availability and periods of unavailability, give patients a waiting list entry letter. Organising/ensuring pre-operative assessments are arranged in waiting list order. To maintain the various filing systems and record books within the Department and provide a filing system for all departmental staff to use. Please see the attached job description for full details.
