We run services and support groups that change people’s lives, and we challenge attitudes about mental illness.
Rethink Mental Illness work alongside CRG Medical Services providing evidence based talking therapies and care navigation services to the residents of HMP Altcourse.
Trainee PWP’s will work as part of a mental health team within the Prison to provide high volume, low intensity interventions which will be a range of cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT) based self-management interventions for clients with mild to moderate presentations of depression and anxiety. This includes providing guided self-help in both a 1:1 and group formats, in line with current Step 2 IAPT guidelines whilst attending Liverpool John Moore’s University and undertaking all necessary training to the required standard.
**Trainee PWP’s will**:
Undertake and successfully complete the accredited PWP training at Liverpool John Moore’s University
Provide assessment and Low intensity interventions e.g. psycho-educational interventions, Guided Self Help, drawing from CBT theories and techniques
Manage a high volume, low intensity caseload.

Work as part of an integrated mental health team, with a range of other professionals to ensure the most appropriate care is provided to patient
Trainee Psychological Wellbeing Practitioners work Monday to Friday during core business hours, however some flexibility is required depending on service need. All clinical work is carried out face to face within the prison environment.
The main base for work for this role will be in HMP Altcourse with training being completed at the Liverpool John Moore’s University (LJMU), however occasional regional and national travel may be necessary for training.
An ability to meet the requirements of the trainee Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner course at Liverpool John Moore’s University and the ability to travel there regularly for a period of 12 months
A genuine passion and interest in the Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner role within the criminal justice arena
Knowledge and evidence of working in mental health
A positive and professional approach to work, motivated by a desire to provide the highest quality of patient care
