College Mentors take a key role in providing an exceptional student experience as part of the summer college programme. They will be engaged in the pastoral care and supervision of students alongside the planning and delivery of activities and evening events. They will be a trusted point of contact for students to support them through their course, and are responsible for upholding and championing behaviours that we expect to see in our students.

**The Site**

SBC at Oxford College is based over Wadham College And St Hughs colleges. Students on the college programme are 15-17 and the capacity is 160 students over both sites each week.

**EXPERIENCE REQUIRED**

**Essential**
- Experience working with children in a professional capacity
- Experience of, and genuine enjoyment of working with children
- Ability to proactively engage with young people
- Strong communication skills, ability to work under pressure, flexibility
- Ability to take control of and lead a group of children on activities and during excursions
- Strong organisational skills

**Desirable**
- Qualifications and experience in leading young people in sports, dance, performing arts, music, or arts & crafts
- First Aid/Lifeguard qualification
- Experience of residential international summer schools
- Experience of the UK boarding environment

**Main Duties**:

- Design, plan and deliver activities to groups of students within the evening social programme:

- Together with the Social Welfare Manager/Social Programme Manager, and college mentor team assist with the creation, planning and delivery of the evening social programme, ensuring a varied and engaging range of activities and events
- Promote evening social events, and ensure all students are signed up to activities
- Engage with students to bring energy and enthusiasm to events and activities, helping students to engage and benefit from the programme
- Ensure high quality supervision of students during evening events and activities
- Lead students in groups on off-site excursions, ensuring high quality supervision and guidance whilst following pre-planned itineraries
- Lead students either as a Group Leader, Coach Leader, or Excursion Leader, ensuring students are safe and accounted for on excursions.
- Supervise and support tutors and classes during off site industry experience trips if required
- Promote and embody standards of behaviour that we would expect from our students at all times.
- Ensure students feel welcome in the country and college from the first point of contact
- Create a welcoming and inclusive environment, in which all students can feel comfortable and cared for
- Facilitate conversations and communication between students when needed, ensuring that students are creating bonds and friendships with others
- Be committed to the safeguarding and welfare of students at SBC sites
- Supervise students in the boarding houses and other college areas, ensuring appropriate standards of student behaviour, whilst monitoring and engaging with student welfare.
- Proactively address student behavioural issues, providing appropriate intervention when necessary
- Remain professional and empathic while dealing with discipline and behaviour management in a positive and constructive manner
- Oversee students moving throughout their day including key times at meals, wake-up / lights out, free time sign out and break times
- Attend daily College Mentor meetings regarding pastoral issues, planning activities and excursion briefs
- Keep management teams informed, and keep records of incidents, sickness and medical issues
- Encourage good timekeeping to ensure that all students are in timetabled lessons
- Be responsible for attending to unwell students and chaperoning students on visits to the doctors when necessary
- Facilitate laundry operations within the College, assisting students using the weekly external laundry service
- Adhere to all Health and Safety measures (including COVID safety measures, risk assessments and other policies and procedures)
- Help with student transfers to and from the airport for any arrivals and departures
- Be on overnight duty 22:00 - 07:30 up to 3 times per week
