Applications are invited for an opportunity to join the dynamic DMOP workforce in the department of Medicine for Older People. We pride ourselves in delivering a modern comprehensive service for the elderly patients of Stockport NHS Foundation Trust and wider population.

You will be an integral part of the Department which comprises of 8 Stroke Consultants and 4 Consultant Geriatricians, Registrars, SHOs and Specialist Nurses. The post will involve inpatient management of frail elderly patients as well as opportunities for general medical experience.

The Trust has excellent postgraduate and research facilities, supports study leave for CPD. There is an active teaching programme and a dedicated simulation suite. This post is particularly suited for applicants seeking experience for a career in Geriatric Medicine, General internal Medicine, Orthogeriatrics Medicine, Neurology or Rehabilitation Medicine. They will be given an educational supervisor and be assisted in compiling evidence of good practice to augment their portfolio.

The service is supported by Trainee doctors and a full complement of Junior clinical fellows.

Diagnosis and treatment, under consultant supervision, of emergency and non-emergency admissions to wards.

Attend ward rounds, outpatient clinic, see referrals and Day Hospital and associated discharge letters.

The primary responsibility would be to provide middle grade support to the junior team on the wards.

It is anticipated because of full shift rota commitments of the junior staff there will be on occasions the need for middle grades to support the junior ward cover. One of the SCF post will be based in Orthogeriatrics.

Educational Experience

Attend Weekly DMOP teaching meeting.
1. 1. Attend twice-weekly CMT training sessions organized by the Postgraduate Department.
2. Attendance at other postgraduate activities is encouraged.
3. The fellow is expected to be studying for postgraduate examinations (unless these have already been obtained) and attendance at the hospital MRCP training sessions is expected.
4. Attendance at the CPR course is mandatory. Many previous SHOs have successfully obtained postgraduate qualifications either whilst in this post or shortly afterwards and have also secured training posts
5. The clinical fellow will be expected to attend an induction course training on geriatric medicine and complete the relevant competencies

If successful this vacancy will require an enhanced DBS check at a cost of £43.50 This cost will be deducted from your first Trust salary.

In addition to this it will be a condition of your employment that you will join the DBS update service and pay the annual subscription fee of £13.
