The Mental Health Liaison Service is a CORE 24, PLAN (Psychiatric Liaison Accreditation Network) accredited team working within Hull Royal Infirmary and Castle Hill hospitals, specialising in providing mental health care within the acute hospitals. You will be joining an already well established team that will be ready to support you.

Our service has been awarded a substantial capital investment to develop the service and we are offering the opportunity of two band 5-6 developmental posts.

We are welcoming interest from Registered Mental Health and Learning Disability Nurses and Registered Social Workers. The successful applicant will be required to utilise a Competency Framework for Mental Health Liaison Nurses for a minimum of 18 months (plus 6 months if requiring completion of preceptorship). There is a strong support structure within the team and we will also encourage you to access external training and development opportunities.

We are an ageless service delivering comprehensive mental health assessments, brief intervention, care planning and signposting/referral for patients within the acute hospitals. The team works closely with many local services in order to help collaboratively serve the needs of those with mental health difficulties. Common presentations include deliberate self-harm, depression, dementia, alcohol misuse, psychosis, adjustment to illness and physical and psychological co-morbidities.

As a band 5 Liaison Practitioner you will;
- Offer a Mental Health and Risk assessment service to an ageless patient group presenting at the general hospital with a broad range of mental health, psychological problems and diagnosed psychiatric illnesses.
- e committed to the parity of esteem agenda, and work closely with both physical and mental health clinicians to ensure a seamless delivery of care.
- Provide a Mental health consultation, liaison and advice service throughout the departments.
- Assist and supporting general hospital colleagues in making decisions about treatment and care in complex situations.
- Improve knowledge and understanding of mental health issues within the hospital and proactively explore and develop partnerships and pathways to improve patient prognosis and outcomes
- Provide formal and informal education and case consultation to registered and unregistered staff.
- Represent mental health services within the Hospitals.
- Provide a communication structure between secondary mental health services, primary care and non-statutory services, as a means of ensuring the highest possible standards of patient care.
