This is an exciting opportunity to work across an Integrated Care Organisation, as part of a well-established, experienced safeguarding team.

The health professional will need to have the skills to analyse and proportionately share information that is necessary to safeguard and/or promote the welfare of a child.

The role requires the post holder to provide Safeguarding supervision, both 1-2-1 and group, for Haringey Health Visitors, School Health Nurse teams, skill mix staff and other key community services.

You will be familiar in the use of motivational communication. Bringing an empathic, curious, respectful challenge to supervision; recognising the need for agreement and co-operation.

You will contribute to the development of and the delivery of Safeguarding Children training across Whittington Health and the ICO.

The post holder will be familiar with and work to the London Safeguarding Children’s Board’s Child Protection Procedures, Working Together (2018) and current relevant legislation.

They will also need to have a clear understanding of and work within Whittington Health’s Safeguarding Policies and Guidelines.

- To provide expertise in the arrangements for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children across Whittington Health.
- To provide an expert source of child protection advice and knowledge to health colleagues across Whittington Health in order to promote safe and effective professional practice.
- To contribute to the development of and to deliver Safeguarding Children training across Whittington Health

The Haringey Safeguarding team consists of the The lead for Whittington Safeguarding, Named Nurse, three Safeguarding Advisors, two MASH health advisors and two administrative roles.

There is close working with our Designated doctor, Designated nurse, Named Midwife(s), Adult Safeguarding Lead, our colleagues in the Whittington Health Islington Safeguarding Team. and those at the North Middlesex University Hospital.

The team are effective in meeting the safeguarding needs of Haringey's Community Service providers; the team are viewed as approachable, knowledgeable, responsive, supportive and empathic.

The team are highly highly conscientious, aiming to achieve the best outcomes for children and young people in Haringey, both internal and external stakeholders and service users.

In order to achieve these high standards, we recognise the need for all Whittington Health staff to feel heard and supported.

- To engage in child protection supervision with Health Visitors, School Health Nursing teams, relevant hospital staff and their skill mix staff and other key directly managed staff groups on a regular basis.
- To meet with senior staff from health visiting service, school nursing service and other community based staff on a regular basis to update them on practice issues within their area.
- To be available to consult with practitioners before and after child protection conferences / core group meetings, and to accompany staff to conferences / meetings as appropriate.
- To maintain an up-to-date knowledge of safeguarding children practice.
- To be available to provide specialist advice to Whittington Health staff as required.
- To assist and advise Managers in ensuring and enabling staff to comply with policies and procedures in relation to child protection.
- To provide advice on legal matters, liaising with lawyers, as appropriate.
- To advise staff on writing reports, including court reports, and to accompany staff on court attendances as appropriate..
- To participate in working parties where specialist child protection knowledge is required.
- To contribute to the writing of Whittington Health and multi-agency annual reports as required.
- To assist in the writing, implementation and auditing of standards and policies.
- To participate in audit projects.
- To contribute to internal case reviews.
- To provide regular service activity information for clinical governance reporting mechanisms.
- To participate in LSCB sub groups / steering groups as required.
- To work with multi-agency colleagues and other health providers in order to safeguard children.
- To assess own learning needs and develop strategies to meet them.
- Through appraisal and personal development plan to be able to identify own personal training needs in order to meet both professional and organisational objectives.
- To undertake continuing professional development as required.
