**Salary**: salary is £20,129 to £21,879 per annum (depending on qualifications and experience)
Hours: Full-time - 37 hours a week (some flexible working options may be available including a small amount of remote working, however, regular on-site attendance will be required)

**About the role**

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and motivated Data Ingestion Officer to join the BGS Informatics function. This is an exciting opportunity for a person with some existing cataloguing and/or collections management experience and you would report directly to the Accession and Registration Manager as well as working closely with colleagues in Corporate Data Management and Geomaterials Warehouse.

Based in the Headquarters of BGS in Keyworth, you will work with your team to ensure that all data currently held and deposited to the National Geoscience Data Centre (NGDC) is findable, accessible, interoperable, and reusable (FAIR). You will also aid the access to the paper records held in Keyworth with manual handling activities related to removing boxes and records from the archive. Other duties/responsibilities will include:

- The appraisal of new deposits against the preferred list of formats and carrying out data conversation activities
- The appraisal and validation of legacy data deposits against the Data Value Checklist, including sifting and remove superfluous paper and physically moving boxes around the Records store, re-boxing collections as appropriate, and disposing of records not accepted for permanent preservation
- Performing outreach engagement with collaborators to promote the ingestion of data into the NGDC both internally and externally
- Supporting colleagues in Enquiries and the Data Validation Officer in handling enquiries and issues relating to data held in the NGDC.

**About you**

With 5 GCSEs or 2 A ‘levels; Maths and English (or Intermediate Level 2 Apprentice), you should have experience in an administrative role, ideally with some cataloguing and/or collections management experience.

The post involves repetitive tasks such as data entry and requires accuracy and the ability to follow a workflow as well as working with colleagues to problem solve issues as they appear. There will also be an opportunity to travel to other BGS sites for training purposes.
