**Job Description**:
An exciting opportunity has arisen at an inner/West London local authority which is currently recruiting for an HR consultant to join their people and talent department on an interim basis. This will be a remote working role with occasional travel to the London office.
The schools HR team delivers a commercially traded service to schools across H&F and West London. Every school that buys our specialist HR services has a named HR Consultant who develops a close relationship with their client schools and provides a bespoke HR service. The HR consultants work closely and flexibly with school leaders to ensure that difficult HR issues are addressed promptly, effectively and sensitively, freeing their time to focus on the demands of running their schools
The team provides professional, friendly and timely advice to school leaders on all HR and employment law related issues. We guide school leaders through complex change management processes including workforce planning, restructuring, redundancy, TUPE and retirement. We provide expert support with disciplinary, grievance, capability, performance and sickness issues..
The schools HR team works in partnership with our colleagues in Legal ServicesFinance, Occupational Health and Childrens’ Services (Safeguarding) to ensure that our customers receive a joined-up, expert and prompt response.
You will be the first point of contact in the in-house HR team for allocated client schools within a team setting.
You will provide a professional, responsive, high-quality business-focussed HR service to customers (schools) which supports the achievement of the customers’ and the Council’s objectives, vision and values.
You will work closely with schools, in a consultancy style, assisting them to achieve HR solutions that are also in line with policy and process.
You will be an active member of the wider HR team and function, carrying out and contributing to corporate HR duties as appropriate.
Core responsibilities
- Develop key projects within your professional area of discipline, through a consultancy approach with clients.- Develop a plan to address people management issues in individual service areas, agreed with clients and your Business Partner.- This plan will have measurable milestones for the identification and design of interventions for service improvements.- Provide advice, guidance, and options within your professional area.- Connect your activities to the corporate vision, people strategy and service business plans.- Deliver key projects and learning events for improving the effectiveness of services through improving people management practice, including management, organisational design, change management and continuous improvement.- Create effective stakeholder relationships that allow line of sight throughout the organisation and the rapid deployment of key corporate initiatives.- Manage and oversight of complex case work in a timely manner, including ensuring recommendations for learning and improvement are implemented fully.- Coaching capacity for line managers as part of their development or through specific interventions.The person specification:

- The ability to understand and demonstrate both the professional discipline and the wider requirements for people management within your sphere of work.- A structured approach to planning and organising work to deliver to plan and exceed expectations.- A knowledge of measurement and the use of data to identify, monitor and demonstrate delivery of objectives.- The ability to lead and/or support transformation programmes from commencement to end.- Identify the root cause and establish an intervention that will achieve a positive outcome and continuous improvement- Work in collaboration with the wider HR team to demonstrate the overall offering from the People and Talent team in support of the business objectives.- Be proactive and demonstrate resilience.- Fantastic communication skills to build confidence and develop rapport with clients.- Contracting and consulting model of operation.- Ability to develop, write, deliver, and evaluate the effectiveness of proposals and interventions, through influencing your client and key stakeholders.- Demonstrable experience of planning and delivery of activities aligned to business needs.- Sound generalist knowledge of people management techniques, policies, and approaches to driving behavioural change.- Graduate member of Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development- Substantial experience operating as a HR Consultant with responsibility for a department in a large organisation working with managers.- Experienced in the use of Job Evaluation, as well as recruitment and resourcing and reward- Experienced in coaching managers to handle employee relations case work
