The Public Health Directorate is a progressive multi-disciplinary department committed to improving health and tackling inequalities in Brighton & Hove. We are looking for a Public Health Research Officer to join our Public Health Intelligence team to support the development of a research strategy and build research capability within the Brighton and Hove City Council.

This role has many opportunities for learning and development, both within the organisation and through Public Health career pathways. Our team is highly experienced and supportive, we have culture of sharing skills and expertise across the team.

**Contract**: Fixed Term (12 months)

**About the role**:
In this role, you will work with the Senior Public Health Intelligence Specialist and the Head of Public Health Intelligence to support the development of the Brighton & Hove public health research strategy. You will work across the Public Health team and the council to take stock of research activities and guide development of research systems and infrastructure. You will lead and contribute to research related bids, including, the National Institute of Health Research (NIHR) Health Determinants Research Collaboration 2024.

This is an exciting time to join the team and work together to strengthen the research culture within the council. Public Health research activities will contribute to our overall aim to improve health and wellbeing, and reduce health inequalities, in Brighton & Hove.

We are seeking someone with experience of using both qualitative and quantitative research methodologies, a good understanding of the wider determinants of health, as well as experience of grant management including writing research bids for funding.

In this role, we are seeking someone who has experience working across partnerships to develop research proposals and has conducted project evaluations and/or research projects themselves. Building and maintaining supportive relationships and influencing effectively are important skills to bring to this role. Being able to clearly present complex public health information and deliver training to a range of audiences is also key.

**Additional information**:
Your starting salary will be pro rata if the above position is less than 37 hours or term-time only.
