**Role Summary**:
Youth workers will build positive, meaningful relationships with young people and key stakeholders, with the intention of creating societal change through helping to create stronger and safer communities.

The primary work will be to provide a chaperone and outreach youth support service to young people on designated routes between schools. They will also provide intervention, diversionary activities, and on-going support and guidance, to reduce and minimize the effects of violence and crime.

Scope of Duties:
- To act as a chaperone to young people on their journey to and from school.
- To build relationships and trust with young people with the aim of reducing antisocial behaviour, violence, and crime in designated project areas.
- To understand and be sensitive to the needs of young people from a variety of ethnically and socially diverse backgrounds.
- Be able to adapt delivery plans and styles to cater for varying needs, abilities, and understanding.
- Manage conflict and behaviour in a professional, sensitive and fair manner.
- To encourage young people to engage in education and positive activities.
- To create and deliver workshops to young people which focus on challenges and issues specific to their needs and the local area.
- To identify hard-to-reach or non-engaging young people and be adaptable in approach to encourage engagement.
- To empower young people to develop new skills, understand the impact of antisocial behaviour, crime, and violence.
- Utilize reflection techniques to help young people make changes in their own behaviour and attitudes.
- To signpost young people to appropriate support services.
- To intervene and deescalate instances of violence, crime, and antisocial behaviour.
- To log all incidents that occur within the programme in line with BCI’s reporting procedures, in a timely manner.
- To support in the monitoring and evaluating of the programme and its impact.
- To collect qualitative and quantitative data in line with the programme’s grant funding requirements, including trends in engagement, types of incidents, and areas of concern.
- To provide effective direct work and mentoring to vulnerable young people.
- To have the health, safety, and emotional and social welfare of all young people at the forefront of all intervention and support.
