Job Title: Residential Support Worker - Learning Disabilities
Job Overview:
As a Residential Support Worker specialising in caring for children with learning disabilities, you will play a pivotal role in providing personalised care, support, and guidance to enhance the well-being and development of each child under your care. You will work closely with a multidisciplinary team to create a nurturing environment that fosters independence, growth, and a sense of belonging for children with diverse learning needs.
**Responsibilities**:
1. Personalised Care: Provide individualised care and support tailored to meet the specific needs and preferences of each child with learning disabilities.
2. Supportive Environment: Create a safe, supportive, and inclusive living environment that promotes the physical, emotional, and social development of children with learning disabilities.
3. Daily Living Assistance: Assist children with daily living activities, including personal hygiene, meal preparation, medication management, and household chores, ensuring their comfort and well-being.
4. Behavioural Support: Implement behavioural support strategies and interventions to help children manage challenging behaviours and develop coping skills in a positive and constructive manner.
5. Communication Support: Facilitate communication for children with learning disabilities by providing access to appropriate communication tools and technologies, such as visual aids, picture schedules, communication boards, and assistive devices. Support the use of alternative communication methods to help children express their needs, thoughts, and feelings effectively.
6. Communication: Foster effective communication and build positive relationships with children, their families, and other stakeholders, maintaining open lines of communication to address concerns and ensure continuity of care.
7. Individualised Planning: Participate in the development and implementation of individualised care plans and support strategies in collaboration with the child, their family, and other professionals involved in their care.
8. Advocacy: Advocate for the rights and interests of children with learning disabilities, ensuring their voices are heard and their needs are met in all aspects of their lives.
9. Safeguarding: Be vigilant in identifying and responding to signs of abuse, neglect, or exploitation, following established protocols and procedures for safeguarding children's welfare. Report any concerns promptly and take appropriate action to ensure the safety and well-being of the children in your care.
10. Documentation: Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of the care provided, including progress notes, incident reports, and observations, in accordance with regulatory standards and organisational policies.
11. Training and Development: Participate in training programmes and professional development opportunities to enhance your knowledge and skills in caring for children with learning disabilities.
12. Team Collaboration: Work collaboratively with colleagues, including social workers, educators, therapists, and healthcare professionals, to provide coordinated care and support that addresses the holistic needs of each child.
Qualifications:
- Previous experience working with children with learning disabilities or related fields preferred.
- Knowledge of relevant legislation, policies, and best practices in supporting individuals with learning disabilities.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build trusting relationships and engage effectively with children and their families.
- Compassionate, patient, and empathetic approach to working with children with diverse needs.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team in a fast-paced environment.
- Flexibility to adapt to changing circumstances and respond appropriately to the needs of children in your care.
- Relevant certifications or training in areas such as first aid, medication administration, and behavioural management may be required.
