Senior Clinical Fellow in Trauma

This is a full-time post for a 12-month fixed term contract and is designed to provide advanced sub-specialty training in T&O. The department consists of 14.8 orthopaedic consultants providing both emergency and elective care across major sub-specialties in lower limb, and upper limb. The Specialist Registrar and SHO workforce form an essential part of delivery of high-quality care and augments the senior grade structure around both training and service needs for both tiers. The department has developed an excellent in-house training programme covering intra-operative and theoretical skills around management of orthopaedic conditions.
The Surgery Care group at BHRUT recognises that NHS organisations need to adapt roles to the changing demands of the market. He or she will also be expected to participate in the general workload of the department. There are ample opportunities and facilities to undertake audit, research and other departmental projects.
Have a continuing responsibility for the clinical care of patients in his/her charge and for the proper functioning of the department.
Deliver a high-quality, responsive orthopaedic service to the patients who use it.
Be responsible for providing appropriate inpatient cover on the wards
Participate in the 1:14 on-call rota.
Undertake the administrative duties associated with the care of patients and the running of a clinical department.
Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of current clinical practice and use of equipment.
Maintain his/her professional development with all available training opportunities and ensure compliance with mandatory training
Under the leadership of our Chair Jacqui Smith and Matthew Trainer, our Chief Executive, we provide care for the residents of three of the most diverse London boroughs. More than half of our 7,500 strong workforce are from black, Asian and minority ethnic groups and most live in Barking and Dagenham, Havering and Redbridge. We also provide healthcare services to people in south west Essex, and specialist neurosciences services to the whole of the county.
Our services include all the major specialties of large acute hospitals, operating from two main sites - King George Hospital in Goodmayes and Queen’s Hospital in Romford. We also provide outpatient services at Brentwood Community Hospital, Barking Hospital, Loxford Polyclinic, and Harold Wood Polyclinic. We have two of the busiest emergency departments in London.
As we recover from Covid-19, we’re proud to be leading the way nationally in reducing the time our patients wait to get the treatment they need. The pandemic provided the drive for our teams to innovate and change.
We know we have more work to do to improve waiting times for urgent and emergency care, and our performance against the four-hour emergency access standard remains challenged, in comparison to many other London trusts.
We are particularly proud of our regional Neurosciences Centre; Radiotherapy Centre; Hyper Acute Stroke Unit; and dedicated breast care service at King George Hospital. We’re also pleased to be part of the NEL Cancer Alliance.
The main duties of the applicant include supporting the Trauma & Orthopaedic team. You will report to your responsible consultant and will be expected to work as a part of a team and provide support to the junior members of staff. We will support the appointee fully in their career progression.
The main clinical duties of the applicant include managing and treating the elective and emergency general orthopaedic admissions under Consultant supervision. They will take part in on-call rotas and will support elective work (such as Operating theatres and Clinics) in trauma and orthopaedics.
