**Job description**:

- The role sits within the Net Zero Buildings Directorates, responsible for one of the most exciting and politically significant policy areas: decarbonising the UK’s 30 million homes, businesses and public sector buildings. This area is a significant contributor to meeting the UK’s climate change commitments by reducing carbon emissions, as well as supporting some of the most vulnerable people in society by tackling fuel poverty.
- The Net Zero Buildings Strategy Team leads on the cross-cutting strategic policy decisions and enablers to support the roll out of buildings retrofitting and low carbon heating. We are a friendly team and welcome flexible working patterns. We have a strong learning culture and value diversity.**Person specification**:
The role will work on enhancing our strategic approach to delivering energy efficiency and low-carbon heating technologies to millions of homes. Responsibilities will include working on:

- Enhancing our strategic approach to improving the energy performance of different housing tenures, working across DESNZ and with other government departments (e.g. the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities).
- Supporting advice to Ministers, to inform on how decisions can have the most positive impact on the department’s strategic climate change objectives.
- Developing short term strategic deliverables, such as those which support cross-Whitehall engagement and respond to emerging strategic issues.
- Parliamentary engagement by drafting Parliamentary Questions and correspondence, and feeding into wider commissions.

We are looking for individuals with an interest in tackling climate change and making a positive difference to the country through decarbonisation.

- You will have excellent communication skills, both verbally and in writing.
- You will be a critical thinker, able to analyse information, weigh risks and benefits, and suggest the best solutions to complex challenges.
