London, United Kingdom The Economist Group LTD Full time

Introduction:
The Economist is a leading source of analysis on international business and world affairs, published weekly in print and digital editions, and daily through our apps and websites. We deliver our information through a range of formats, from newspapers and magazines to conferences, films and audio. What ties us together is the objectivity of our opinion, the originality of our insight and our advocacy of economic and political freedom around the world.

We are looking for an experienced Lead Product Designer to work across our Customer Journeys product area, building great customer journeys and helping to deliver subscriber growth. You will be embedded within a cross functional team and lead a small group of designers across adjacent product teams that are re-imagining and optimising crucial steps in our subscription funnel and increasing subscriber engagement and retention.

Your role will be to connect the product strategy with the product teams across our Customer Journey area. This will be through producing end-to-end impactful designs for delivery as well as managing and motivating designers to deliver outstanding work. Alongside other design leads you will create a joined-up experience across our touchpoints and contribute to raising the bar of design, experience and product thinking across the company.

You’ll be able to demonstrate experience working with subscription business models, running workshops, working from discovery through to delivery and driving high quality design work within teams. From user research to wireframes and user flows through to testing and validation - you’ll be responsible for working end-to-end.

You’ll be supported by a friendly and inclusive design team who have the autonomy to define and improve processes and care deeply about developing each other's capabilities. As a senior member of the team you will work closely with other design leads and the head of product design to grow the team, shape our practices and foster our culture.

This role is based in our London office (20 Cabot Square, Canary Wharf, London E14 4QW).

We offer flexible working and have systems in place to ensure working remotely when the need arises. However during the current Covid-19 situation, we are all remote, the intention is that when we are ready we will move back to spending more time in the office than not.

Accountabilities:
**How you will contribute**:

- Work with key partners across the business (from product, editorial, marketing and data) to achieve shared goals
- Champion research across teams; planning, managing and running user research alongside your team to understand user behaviour and identify needs
- Building a vision for your product area, be an important part of roadmap planning and help to set the strategy for how your designers deliver it
- Articulating key insights and translate them into testable artefacts like sketches, user flows or interactive prototypes that utilise The Economist brand to test assumptions and ideas
- Create production ready design assets and work with engineers to ensure a high quality experience is shipped
- Facilitate workshops and/or design sprints that bring stakeholders and others along the product development journey
- Communicate progress and product rationale to key partners including the C-suite, by designing and delivering presentations; or through dialogue on an ad-hoc basis
- Grow and mentor your reports - helping to shape their career paths and raise the bar of design, experience and product thinking
- You will contribute and evolve the design culture across the company

Experience, skills and professional attributes:
**The ideal skills for this role include**:

- Possess a strong portfolio that demonstrates your most significant team and personal accomplishments. It will highlight your design process and core craft skills including interaction and visual design across a breadth of platforms and project types
- String experience in leading teams to deliver many launched products by working collaboratively with product managers, engineers, stakeholders and users in an agile way
- Move between focusing on the minute details of a project to the overarching strategic vision, communicating and reacting to required trade-offs and helping your team plan accordingly
- Good understanding of technologies used to build world-class digital product experiences. You have solid experience in agile working and sprints, will be hands-on with user-acceptance testing (UAT) and have a familiarity with the fundamentals of accessibility and usability
- Experience in responsive design across multiple screen sizes and devices; with a well-trained eye for design quality, usability and consistency
- Expert in prototyping and design tools like Miro, Sketch, Figma or Invision and can prioritise choosing the right tool at the right time
- Experience working with subscription business models. B2B or corporate subscriptions experience would be a plus
