Regulatory Monitoring Reviewer

Edinburgh, United Kingdom ICAS Full time

**Regulatory Reviewers**

This is an exciting opportunity to join our Regulatory Monitoring team, our team of qualified professionals who are dedicated to monitoring and driving professional standards in the audit and accountancy profession in the UK.

We have two roles in the team, which will involve monitoring visits to our firms within the UK, many of which are in the central belt of Scotland. You will undertake a mixture of desktop reviews (conducted at home) and on-site visits to firms.

**The Practice and Anti-Money Laundering Reviewer role (Role 1) involves**:

- conducting risk-based visits to our firms to monitor compliance with Anti-Money Laundering requirements; and
- conducting Practice Monitoring visits to ensure that our firms exercise appropriate quality control over their general practice activities.

**The Audit Reviewer role (Role 2) involves**:

- conducting the Anti-Money Laundering and Practice Monitoring visits as per Role 1.

**What we can offer you**

These roles will attract people who have significant experience in practice but are looking for a career change. These roles offer:

- **A home working contract**: when you are not onsite at firms, you will work from home.
- **Work/life balance**:no more timesheets or dealing with client deadlines, peak busy periods or commercial targets. Your monitoring reviews will be spread evenly throughout the year and visits are conducted within normal business hours. When you are not onsite, you can work flexibly from home.
- **Team working**: you will be part of a dynamic professional team within ICAS. We have regular team meetings and you will work with the team on larger visits. We also plan regular division social events.
- **Variety**: no day is the same, you will be monitoring different firms of different sizes from one week to the next, and you will be exposed to a wide range of engagement services and compliance systems.
- **Experience used**:you will use all of the key technical and professional skills you have obtained in practice.
- **Experience gained**: you will build a wealth of experience from visiting many different firms and learning significantly about risks and quality management as well as building on your technical knowledge. You will be dealing with partners and staff at our firms directly and as well as provide consultation and advice to firms so this role will also develop your people skills.
- **Career position**: this role will place you in a good career position as a respected compliance professional. Whilst staff retention is important, a number of our past reviewers have secured senior compliance, technical and client-facing positions in practice and in finance. There are also other career opportunities within ICAS.
- **Networking**: you will build professional relationships and contacts with firms throughout the UK. You will also engage with our boards and committees, regulators, the FRC and OPBAS, with other professional and governmental bodies.
- **Continuing Professional Development**: we will support you in obtaining the CPD you need for this role and we invest in the skills development of our team.

**Who we are looking for**:
Each of the roles requires a professionally qualified accountant, with a full UK driving licence, a willingness to travel and spend some time away from home.

**Working in the Regulatory Monitoring team we need**:

- An ability to work to tight deadlines
- Have a critical eye, reviewing skills, with excellent attention to detail
- Report writing skills
- Excellent technical skills
- Excellent inter-personal skills - to be able to build both internal and external relationships
- Clear communication and presentation style
- Organisational skills

**The experience requirements for each of the two roles are as follows**:
**Role 1 - Practice & Anti-Money Laundering Reviewer**:

- A professionally qualified accountant, who has had significant general practice experience, preferably at manager, senior manager or principal level.
- UK GAAP knowledge is essential, as is an awareness of anti-money laundering and ethical requirements.

**Role 2 - Audit Reviewer**:

- A professionally qualified accountant, trained in the audit department of sizeable audit registered firm and has significant audit hours and at least two years' post qualification experience in audit, preferably at manager, senior manager or principal level.
- Experience of large corporate firm audits (listed audit experience is also desirable).
- Your skills and knowledge will include (required):

- International Standards on Auditing (ISAs) (essential);
- UK GAAP (essential) (IFRS knowledge will also be highly desirable)
- FRC Ethical standards (or a familiarity with ethical requirements) (essential)

**Job Types**: Full-time, Permanent

**Salary**: £45,000.00-£58,750.00 per year

**Benefits**:

- Additional leave
- Bereavement leave
- Casual dress
- Company car
- Company pension
- Cycle to work scheme
- Employee discount
- Enhanced
