- This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.**Job description**:
The post will also act as Deputy Head of Information Stewardship, providing support to the 1* lead including the provision of advice and direction to MOD staff on issues under the Information Stewardship portfolio, including the Departments obligations under FOIA/EIR, Data Protection and Records Management (under the Public Records Act).

The post also supports and oversees the management of the MOD FOI Operations team to enable the provision of day-to-day guidance and assurance across the Department on the handling of requests for information under the FOIA and Environmental Information Regulations (EIRs). This requires significant stakeholder engagement, including cross Government, in consideration of the most sensitive information held by the MOD in relation to national security and intelligence matters.

The team also leads and coordinates on MODs obligations to the Transparency agenda and supports the 1* Information Stewardship in their role as MOD Transparency Champion, including the timely and accurate preparation and release of material in accordance with Cabinet Office requirements.

The post holder will be responsible for managing five members of staff.

**Responsibilities**

The key tasks that will be performed by the post holder are as follows:

- Providing an effective internal review process for considering complaints about the MOD’s handling of FOI and EIR cases, in accordance with the guidelines in the FOI Code of Practice.
- Working in conjunction with MOD Legal team, Government Legal Department, external Counsel and any other relevant stakeholders (such as the Cabinet Office) co-ordinate and lead the Department’s response to Tribunal appeals against IC Decision Notices where necessary.
- Acting as Deputy Head of Information Stewardship as required, overseeing the management of the Department's compliance with all aspects of information including FOI/EIR, Data Protection matters and Records Management (under the Public Records Act).
- Alongside the MOD FOI Operations team engage and influence stakeholders at a strategic level to drive improvement in FOI and EIR compliance across defence.
- Leading MOD engagement with other Government Departments to ensure a consistent approach is taken in responding to request and sharing best practice through regular workshops and meetings.
- Supporting Defence Digital transformation and related corporate activity
