Elman Poole Ovarian Cancer Junior Research Fellow

Oxford, United Kingdom University of Oxford Full time

This is an exciting opportunity to take up the newly setup Elman Poole Ovarian Cancer Junior Research Fellowship based at the Weatherall Institute of Molecular Medicine (WIMM) and associated with Lincoln College. The fellowship will cover the salary of the fellow and provide an attractive budget for research consumables for up to five years. This position offers the opportunity for postdoctoral scientists and researchers working towards pursuing an independent career in cancer science. Reporting to Professor Ahmed Ahmed, the post holder is a member of a research group at WIMM providing day-to-day supervision for research assistants. The post holder is responsible for their own grant funded research project within a discrete area of a wider research programme. In addition, the post-holder will be elected to a non-stipendiary Junior Research Fellowship (five year fixed-term) at Lincoln College.

The position offers an exciting opportunity to lead and develop cancer immunology research projects in the field of ovarian cancer. Funding was made possible by Establishing the Elman Poole JRF through a generous donation. Synergies between the fellow and members of Professor Ahmed’s lab is expected, with cancer cell immunology being a key focus of research in the lab. The WIMM offers a good environment for cancer immunology work as it hosts the Medical Research Council Human Immunology Unit. More broadly, the position offers wider interaction with members of the Cancer Research UK Oxford Centre which has cancer immunology as a key research focus.

The role requires a scientist who is highly motivated, has superior communication and organisational skills, can work collaboratively with a high-performing team, and is a hands-on individual who can develop research directions.

The post is offered on a full-time basis and is fixed term for five years in the first instance.

Applications for flexible working arrangements are welcomed and will be considered in line with business needs.
