**Brief Description**:
We’re looking for an enthusiastic and organised individual to join our Eastern Region team supporting the East Coast, East Midlands and North & East Routes which extends from Kings Cross to Berwick-upon-Tweed at a time when rail investment is at its highest level with largescale projects such as Transpennine Route Upgrade and Midland Main Line Electrification round the corner.

With the team undergoing a transformation of streamlining and introducing new processes to deliver for the customer, this is an excellent time to join and contribute towards a team objective of continuous improvement.

The role of the Liability team is to advise on Network Rail’s statutory and contractual obligations for infrastructure, through reviewing and interpreting historic legal documents and identifying and implementing solutions that aim to reduce the Company’s liability and expenditure. The Researcher will play a vital role in supporting our team of Advisors ensure that projects are delivered on time, within budget and with necessary consents in place.

The role is varied and some of the key tasks include:

- Researching Parliamentary and Liability records and data and supporting the provision of advice on Network Rail’s statutory and contractual obligations for existing and proposed infrastructure.
- Leading on the research of third party owned structures in the vicinity of the railway-including:
1. the interpretation of legal documents.

2. liaising with third parties regarding their obligations.

3. developing a database to record responses.
- Supporting the Advisers on large scale and high-profile projects such as the Transpennine Route Upgrade and Midland Main Line Electrification Project.

- Strong time management and organisation skills
- Good Knowledge of Microsoft Office (i.e., Excel, Word and PowerPoint)
- Experience of drawing and interpreting data from a variety of sources

**About the role (External)**:
**Some Key Accountabilities of the role**:
1. Carry out Parliamentary and Liability research to support the provision of statutory and contractual advice for Network Rail infrastructure, to inform of maintenance and renewal obligations in law.

2. Update, verify and manage liability data contained in various Network Rail Work Banks and Databases.

3. Support the provision of opportunities and methods to reduce or eliminate Network Rail’s obligations to renew or maintain infrastructure.

4. Support negotiations with external parties for the reduction of liabilities and the completion of appropriate documentation.

5. Support the Advisors with progressing opportunities for the closure or reduction in status of level crossings.

6. Provide advice to protect railway infrastructure assets from the unauthorised or unlawful activities by adjoining owners/occupiers.

7. Proactively seek and obtain knowledge, skills and experience of railway engineering through a combination of working with senior colleagues, on-the-job training, formal training courses, personal research, and attendance at relevant meetings of professional and technical bodies.
