Colchester, United Kingdom Horizon Landscapes East Anglia Ltd Full time

Due to a team restructure, we are seeking to recruit a Deputy Head Gardener to assist with our soft landscape maintenance teams which includes private houses, hotels, care homes, country estates and commercial premises all to a high standard.

You will be working under direct accountability to the Managing Director who acts as the Head Gardener for the maintenance division of the business.

Ideal formal qualifications to help the applicant achieve this position will include an NVQ level 3 in horticulture and/or an RHS level 2 and 3.

You will need to have a proven record of leadership skills as the role will involve the supervision of a team of gardeners, contractors and grounds maintenance operatives working alongside you.

In the absence of the Head Gardener (Managing Director) you will need to be able to undertake scheduling and organising of jobs including maintaining the health and safety of all operatives on site, liaising with clients and problem-solving where necessary. Good customer service skills is a requirement.

In addition, a flexible approach to work patterns is necessary due to the nature and some locations of work. Overtime will be required for certain jobs and in peak times. Occasional Saturday work may be required and at short notice to meet client needs.

We are based in north Essex but due to the rural position public transport is limited. Therefore, own transport is recommended to commute to work. A full UK driving licence is required in order to drive work vehicles along with the competency to tow trailers if necessary.

We are looking for someone who is prepared to be a team worker as well as using their own initiative to move our business forward into exciting times. A keen interest in gardens and landscapes is a priority.
