Self-employed Personal Assistant

I am writing to advertise a personal assistant (PA) position for my son who is a Direct Payment (DP) holder. He is 33 years old, approximately 6ft tall, and has cerebral palsy. While he can walk and talk, he experiences challenges with coordination and clarity of speech. These difficulties stem from his cerebral palsy, which affects his movements and can make him appear a bit clumsy at times. However, he manages remarkably well despite these obstacles.

The DP’s passion for music is immense, and he thoroughly enjoys having it playing in the car. Additionally, he is a sports enthusiast, showing great enthusiasm for all kinds of sports activities. It’s worth noting that the DP holder has limited road sense, necessitating assistance in crossing roads and ensuring his safety when getting in and out of the car.

The DP holder currently resides in EN6 and requires assistance in transportation to and from his clubs twice a week. The PA should have their own car and be fully insured. This position is self-employed, requiring availability for 2 days a week, with each shift lasting 1 hour. Specifically, the PA will be responsible for picking the DP holder up from his home at 9:40 am and driving him to his club. At 3 pm, the PA will pick him up from the club and safely transport him back home.

While the DP holder is 33 years old chronologically, his cognitive development is at a younger age level. He greatly enjoys engaging with someone at the end of the day and discussing his activities. However, due to his cerebral palsy, his speech may not always be clear or easy to understand.

The DP holder occasionally sucks his middle fingers, which can further affect his ability to communicate effectively. Therefore, we are seeking a compassionate individual with some experience and a deep understanding of these challenges.

The pay rate for this position is £20 per hour, and no specialized equipment is required—only a car to facilitate transportation.
