An exciting opportunity exists for enthusiastic and positive individuals to join the health economics team within Healthcare Improvement Scotland (HIS). We are seeking Health Economists to contribute to the production of evidence reviews and advice within the HIS Evidence Directorate. The roles will primarily support the work of the Scottish Health Technologies Group (SHTG), as part of SHTG’s contribution to the Accelerated National Innovation Adoption (ANIA) pathway. The roles will also support the HIS evaluation of the Primary Care Phased Investment Programme.

These are applied health economics role, contributing to shaping advice and decision making across NHS Scotland, and helping to ensure timely and equitable access for patients to health technologies. For example, SHTG’s evidence assessments and economic modelling play a key role in informing ANIA decision making on the use of new and innovative technologies across Scotland.

Providing economics input to a range of projects, duties include: producing rigorous reviews of health economics evidence; developing models to assess the cost effectiveness of interventions; undertaking resource and cost impact analysis; and support for research activity across the organisation. Your role may also involve publishing your work and contributing to scientific conferences in relevant fields when required.

The roles require a clear thinking and methodical approach with strong quantitative and analytical skills. You will have excellent report writing skills and the ability to work autonomously managing and summarising large amounts of scientific information to tight deadlines. Strong influencing and communications skills to inform the decisions of senior clinicians and managers across NHS Scotland are required. Excellent interpersonal skills, supported by good oral, written and presentation skills are also essential.

You will be expected to have a relevant degree, a postgraduate degree in health economics (Masters level or equivalent), a sound understanding of economics concepts and practical, applied health economic evaluation experience.
