**Job Summary**

You will be working in a team of enterprise and technology architects, but with autonomy within your area of expertise to drive the changes needed to allow NHSBT to continue its strategy of leading the world in Blood and Organ donation, clinical testing, and research.

We work closely with technologists in the Department of Health and the Government Digital Service, and you will be able to demonstrate how putting users first in the design and delivery of technology services can lead to transformative change in a UK wide health and supply chain organisation.

**Main duties of the job**

This is a six-month role, during where you will:
- Work with key business stakeholders to initiate and facilitate delivery of a North Star for the blood supply chain. The scope of this is donor to patient for all transfusion and medicine products. The development of the North Star is a joint activity between five NHSBT directorates (Donor Experience, Blood Supply, Clinical, Plasma, and DDTS), so will require significant senior stakeholder engagement and strong influencing skills.
- Develop a 1, 3 and 5 year target states that show what capabilities the blood supply chain needs and what technology could be used to deliver them. Over the 3 and 5 year timeframes this becomes increasingly speculative, but gives our best view of the future. The target states should build on the architecture vision work already completed. It should take into consideration what is achievable (i.e. not just a wish list), and what needs to be true to deliver it. It should also consider options that support NHSBTs desire to be more ambitious, innovative and think wider than point solutions.
- Carry out horizon scanning across industry, identifying emerging trends and their potential impact and opportunity for the blood supply chain. Communicate findings to key stakeholders thought short thought leadership papers (maybe every 3-6 months) and Viva. You will require a deep understanding of NHSBTs business, strategic and operational change needs and the ability to convert these into well-defined and high quality IT-supported change initiatives.
- You will be integral to shaping NHSBTs future IT strategy, and work collaboratively with other architects to define standard platforms and patterns that will be used across the whole organisation.
- You will liaise closely with the other architects to make sure that best practices and design patterns are shared and followed across the development teams, and initiating and delivering relevant technology evaluations and recommendations

You will be required to travel and spend time away from base, which will involve working irregular hours and overnight stays when required, with prior notice

**About You**

**Experience and Knowledge**
- Extensive experience of IT strategic planning and successful management of large-scale change.
- Extensive experience of IT architecture development and solution design.
- Extensive experience of using technology to support significant business change and development across a range of different business models e.g. manufacturing, health, clinical, customer service, logistics.
- Extensive experience of leading organisations in the definition, selection, building or acquisition, implementation, and improvements in business systems.
- Experience of managing a diverse set of people on an ad-hoc basis and managing multiple simultaneous projects.
- Excellent awareness of the current state of software technologies, particularly those affecting the range of business requirements of NHSBT.
- Excellent understanding of solution development, TOGAF, ITIL and ITSM.
