Queens Hospital Burton has 15 theatres providing a range of specialities from General, Urology, Ophthalmic, Orthopaedic to ENT and Gynaecology and Obstetric services. The department is split into 4 geographical areas, Treatment Centre Day case unit, holding 6 theatres, treatment room and 2 separate bespoke Orthopaedic theatres. A further 5 theatres are situated on the Main Building with separate Maternity and Trauma Orthopaedic theatre. Sir Robert Peel Site in Tamworth holds 1 theatre and 2 Endoscopy rooms which is part of the QHB network.

Full responsibility, accountability and demonstration of leadership will be needed for the daily management and organisation of Orthopaedic Theatres across QHB. This involves managing a wide range of complex and sometimes conflicting priorities including staff management. Assessments, planning, implementation and evaluation of surgical, anaesthetic and recovery care is required to ensure a safe care environment to meet patient’s needs.

Focus will be required to work closely with fellow Lead Practitioners and Senior Sisters in conjunction with the Clinical Theatre Manager and across to the wider UHDB team to ensure smooth, efficient and effective intra operative care delivery.

The post holder will provide clinical management, responsibility and leadership for the Orthopaedic Theatres whilst supporting the QHB Theatre sites to ensure a patient focused care delivery. To have a professional leadership presence, working collaboratively and co-operatively with the wider MDT for the smooth running of the theatres. This will incorporate undertaking a co-ordinator role, management of day to day activities, trouble shooting and working collaboratively with fellow Lead Practitioners, Senior Sisters and the Clinical Theatre manager.

Ensuring that Guidelines, National and Local policies, Infection control measures, Audit collection and Quality Assurance is maintained and adhered too. From these assessments to provide improvement pathways to ensure best practice is achieved, which is evidenced based.
