Outreach Librarian

Do you want to try a very different type of librarianship?
GPs and primary care staff are very busy people who have not been used to the range of information services enjoyed by the rest of the NHS. This post is a part of an effort to try and do something about that.
Could this be you?
As a Primary Care Outreach Librarian you will make a real difference to the lives of patients and service users, proving that proactive information services for staff can save them time and help them do their jobs better - just some of the additional benefits that can be realised by the successful applicant.
As a Primary Care Outreach Librarian, you will take responsibility for providing library and information services to staff based in Primary Care in Oxfordshire as well as working with other Primary Care librarians across the Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire and Berkshire West Integrated Care System. You will also be part of the Oxford Health library and knowledge team offering information skills support and knowledge management services, delivering complex literature searches, designing and delivering information skills training using a range of media, via MS Teams or face to face, developing current awareness services and monitoring service effectiveness.
Outreach in this job title really means that - we need someone who can use a range of media and contact methods to sell the benefits of library and knowledge services to staff in their workplaces -and then go on to deliver those services. And this means flexible working in the truest sense - home working is expected with virtual meetings or visits to other workplaces if required, while regularly touching base with the library service.
You will be prepared to make the best use of the electronic, physical and staff resources available, supporting teams and individuals in engaging with the evidence base and providing information consultancy for those unable to easily access NHS library services.
Communicating and teamwork are essential for this post along with an imaginative approach to service delivery.
Our team of experienced information professionals and paraprofessionals provides library services to all NHS staff and students of OHFT based in primary care, mental health and community settings, as well as Commissioners and Public Health professionals where agreements exist.
- Benefits of working for Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust include:
- Excellent opportunities for career progression
- 27 days annual leave, plus bank holidays, with an increase to 33 days with continuous service
- NHS Discount across a wide range of shops, restaurants and retailers
- Staff accommodation
- Competitive pension scheme
- Lease car scheme
- Cycle to work scheme
What we need from you
- A qualified, enthusiastic Librarian/Information professional with substantial experience in a professional librarian role
- Ability to work as part of a team, to work unsupervised and to prioritise workloads.
- A high level of interpersonal and communication abilities in verbal, written and presentational skills
