Health Care Assistant - Band 3

Full time and part time hours, permanent contract

The Janet Shaw Clinic is a 15 bedded medium secure unit for males with a learning disability who have committed offences.

The aim of the service is to provide effective, evidence-based assessment and treatment to individuals with learning disabilities who may also have additional psychiatric and behavioural needs. The service provides treatment which aims to reduce the risk of re-offending following discharge The unit offers an intensive 24-hour treatment service, with input from a full multi-disciplinary team consisting of Consultant Psychiatrists, Psychologists, Occupational Therapists, Mental Health and Learning Disability Nurses and Speech & Language Therapists.

Each service user will be risk assessed in preparation for access to ground and community leave, some individuals will have been in prison for many years, so leave plays a crucial role in the rehabilitation process.

This service is highly specialist so we are looking for enthusiastic individuals who will be willing to support the manager in developing the team to enable the delivery of expert care to this patient group.

We need a team that can support in maintaining physical, procedural, and relational security

As a Health care Assistant, You will be required to assist patients with Activities of Daily living, personal care, support leave on site and in the community and to complete observations and activities with patients. You will be required to work closely with the Qualified Nurses and all members of the Multi-Disciplinary Team so that assessment and treatment can be completed in a timely manner. You will be assigned as a member of a care team for an allocated individual and will play a very important part in the patient's transition back into the community.

This is achieved over a 24 hour period on a rota system and includes days, nights, weekends, bank holidays (including Christmas and New Year)

Please note many Trust interviews are taking place through Microsoft Teams, this can be downloaded either through the App Store or Google Play for use on your phone/tablet.

Whilst full induction and training will be given due to specialist nature of the service it is crucial that staff have a particular interest in this group. The post holder will be required to provide emergency to other units in event of temporary staff deficits.
