The Head of Academy will provide the day-to-day leadership and expertise in

Learning & Development to deliver the agreed outputs from the Annual Training Plan, Workforce Plan, L&D Strategy and Apprenticeship Strategy.

The post holder will have particular leadership responsibility for learning and development, focussing on the development and delivery of education programmes required for the future workforce and will have a pivotal role in supporting the development of future strategies and identifying opportunities across Elite EMS.

The role will require collaboration with other key roles within the academy and across all other departments to bring together a coordinated approach to developing the whole workforce.

The post holder will manage an integrated team of educators, learning and development

professionals and services, responsible for delivering:

- Clinical Education
- Driving Education
- Vocational Education
- Career Pathways
- Commercial Training
- Regulated Qualifications
- Apprenticeships
- Statutory & Mandatory Training
The post holder will have support from the Director of Apprenticeships for the Academy estate and facilities and will have influence determining the future facilities required as part of the longer-term strategies.

The post holder will design and encourage individuals, teams and systems to deliver our commitment as an employer to improve and embed a culture of continuous learning for all, one that encourages and motivates all to develop. A culture that recognises and removes the barriers to learning.

A key area of development will be to continue leading our journey to develop new ways of working using digital transformation to support the delivery of future education and clinical placements.

The Head of Academy will be accountable to the Director of Apprenticeships to define, plan and implement all aspects of education, learning and development to Elite EMS.

**Main responsibilities**:
**Supervision, Leadership and Management**
- Provides day-to-day leadership for education, learning and development and professional practice, as well as other education services, on behalf of Elite Emergency Medical Services and Elite Specialist Services.
- Manages services and staff in the Academy. This includes managing all processes in relation to the appointment (in partnership with HR/Recruitment) and retention of staff and associated management processes such as attendance management and professional development of Academy staff.
- Responsible for ensuring there is an integrated team that is able to develop and respond to the changing requirements of the organisation.
- Delegate areas of responsibility as appropriate, ensuring that project management principles are adhered to, deadlines are met, and the objectives of the project are delivered.
- Participate in regular 1:1’s and/or team meetings to ensure effective operating processes and high standards of delivery are maintained.
**Qualifications (Essential)**
- Paramedic Science or approved legacy Paramedic qualification. The post holder must be currently occupationally competent.
- Foundation Degree, equivalent qualification/experience or higher.
- Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training, equivalent or higher.
- Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement, equivalent or higher.
- Level 4 Award in Understanding Internal Quality Assurance Processes and Practices, equivalent or higher.
**Background & Experience (Essential)**
- High level knowledge and experience of educational delivery, including expectations of an awarding organisation.
- High level knowledge of current ambulance qualifications and roles.
- Experience in managing an integrated education team.
- Experience in using L&D Management software.
- Has the ability to develop new and maintain existing professional relationships.
- Understands differences, anticipates areas of conflict and takes action where necessary.
- Ability to build positive working relationships and work well with colleagues and stakeholders at all levels.
- Innovative, resilient with the ability to cope in high pressure situations and tight deadlines.
- Has the drive to ensure duties are delivered in accordance with expectations and actions are seen through to completion.
- Experience of project management, showing strong organisation and prioritisation skills with successful delivery outcomes on time and with resource constraints.

**Salary**: £45,000.00-£55,000.00 per year
