**Job Purpose**

**Main Duties and Responsibilities**
Perform the following activities in conjunction with and under the guidance of the Principal/Co Investigator:

1. Develop and progress research projects of international standard in accordance with the project deliverables and INCISE/School of Cancer Sciences and College of Medical, Veterinary and Life Science [MVLS] research strategy.
2. Develop and enhance your research profile and reputation and that of The University of Glasgow/School/Research Group, including contributing to publications of international quality in high profile/quality refereed journals, enhancing the research impact in terms of economic/societal benefit, and gathering indicators of esteem.
3. Contribute to the identification of potential funding sources and to assist in the development of proposals to secure funding from internal and external bodies to support future research.
4. Document research output including analysis and interpretation of all data, maintaining records and databases, drafting technical/progress reports and papers as appropriate.
6. Presentation of work at international and national conferences, at internal and external seminars, colloquia and workshops to develop and enhance our research profile.
7. Contribute to developing and maintaining collaborations with colleagues across the research group/School/College/University and wider community (e.g. Academic and Industrial Partners).
8. Contribute to team/group meetings/seminars/workshops and School research group activities to enhance the wider knowledge, outputs and culture of the School/College.
9. Supervise individual student projects at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level, and to contribute to the supervision and training of postgraduate research students, as appropriate, to ensure their effective development.
10. Take on administrative or management roles within the Translational Cancer Pathology Laboratory as assigned by Professor Edwards.
11. Engage in continuing professional development activities as appropriate.
12. Undertake any other reasonable duties as required by Professor Edwards.
13. To contribute to the enhancement of the University’s international profile in line with the University’s Strategic Plan, Inspiring People Changing The World.

**Knowledge/Qualifications**

**Essential**-A2. Specialist theoretical and practical knowledge of cancer histology, digital pathology and molecular biology techniques.
A3. Sufficient breadth and/or depth of knowledge in cancer development (preferably colorectal cancer) and cancer screening.

**Skills**

**Essential**
C1. Expertise in histology, manual and automated immunohistochemistry and assessing immunohistochemical staining.
C2. Experience of using digital pathology systems such as QUPath, Visopharm or equivalent.
C3. Expertise in DNA/RNA extraction, qPCR and in-situ hybridization.
C4. Experience in using R for cut-point generation, Deseq2 and pathway enrichment analysis.
C5. Proficient in cell culture, protein measurement assays (e.g., Bradford or BCA) and western blotting.
C6. Extensive IT and data analysis/interpretation skills including using SPSS.
C7. Excellent interpersonal skills including team working and a collegiate approach.
C8. Excellent communication skills [oral and written], including public presentations and ability to communicate complex data/concepts clearly and concisely.
C9. Effective organisation skills to manage time and prioritise as appropriate research, teaching and administrative responsibilities.
C10. Appropriate workload/time/project/budget/people management skills.

**Salary will be Grade 6, £31,502 - £35,308 per annum.**

**This post is full time, and has funding for up to 18 months**
