Research Assistant/research Associate

**Job Purpose**
To make a leading contribution to a programme of research on gender, crime and justice within the Scottish Centre for Crime and Justice Research (SCCJR) working with Professor Michele Burman. To lead on writing publications, support project development as needed, and contribute to the wider objectives of SCCJR.
The postholder will have expert knowledge in criminal justice responses to rape and/or domestic abuse, women’s experiences of criminal justice, and expertise in qualitative analytical techniques.
**Main Duties and Responsibilities**:
Perform the following activities in conjunction with and under the guidance of the Principal/Co Investigator:
1. Plan and conduct assigned research individually or jointly in accordance with project deliverables and project research strategy.
2. Document research output including coding, analysis and interpretation of all data, maintaining records and databases, drafting technical/progress reports and papers as appropriate.
3. Take a role in designing research deliverables for project funders.
4. Develop and enhance your research profile and reputation and that of The University of Glasgow including contributing to publications of international quality in high profile/quality refereed journals, enhancing the research impact in terms of economic/societal benefit, and gathering indicators of esteem.
5. Contribute to the presentation of work at international and national conferences, at internal and external seminars, colloquia and workshops to develop and enhance our research profile.
6. Contribute to the identification of potential funding sources and to assist in the development of proposals to secure funding from internal and external bodies to support future research.
7. Collaborate with colleagues and participate in team/group meetings/seminars/workshops across the research Group/School/College/University and wider community.
8. Perform administrative tasks related to the activities of the research group and School, including Budgets/Expenditure.
9. Keep up to date with current knowledge and recent advances in the field/discipline.
10. Engage in continuing professional development activities as appropriate.
11. Undertake any other duties of equivalent standing as assigned by the Head of School/Director of Research Institute.
12. Contribute to the enhancement of the University’s international profile in line with the University’s Strategic Plan, World Changers Together.
**For appointment at grade 7**
13. Perform the above duties with a higher degree of independence, leadership and responsibility, particularly in relation to planning, funding, collaborating and publishing research, and mentoring colleagues.
-16.Take a leading role in the identification of potential funding sources and assist in the development of proposals to secure funding from internal and external bodies, planning and developing a line of research activities.
**Qualifications**
**Essential**
A1 SCQF Level 11 (Postgraduate Masters degree) in a discipline relevant to criminology (e.g. sociology; social policy etc.).
A2 Specialist theoretical and/or practical knowledge of gender crime and justice

A4 Normally Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 12 (PhD) (or close to submission) or alternatively possess the equivalent in professional qualifications and experience, with experience of personal development in a similar or related role(s)
**Desirable**
B1 Competence in basic quantitative research design and analytical techniques.
B2 Knowledge of specialist IT software as appropriate.

C1 Skills in the coding and analysis of qualitative data, using NVivo or similar.
C2. Ability to analyse and organise resources in order to manage time and workload effectively.
C3 Research creativity and strong cross-discipline collaborative ability relating to gender, crime and justice.
C4 Excellent communication skills (oral and written) including public presentations and ability to communicate complex data/concepts clearly and concisely
C5 Excellent interpersonal skills including team working and a collegiate approach
C7 Proven initiative and judgement to resolve problems independently and/or as part of a team.
C8 Appropriate workload/time/project/budget/people management skills
C9 IT and data analysis/interpretation skills as appropriate.

C13 Sufficient depth of relevant research experience, normally including sufficient postdoctoral experience in a related field, appropriate to an early career researcher
