Research Assistant

**Job Purpose**
The postholder will support the work of the Suicidal Behaviour Research Laboratory and a range of research projects associated with the Lab working on data collection, management, literature reviews, analysis and training development. Specifically, the job requires knowledge in suicide and self-harm or related fields.
The post-holder will also be expected to contribute to the formulation and submission of research publications and research proposals as well as help manage and direct complex and challenging project(s), as opportunities allow.
This post is part-time 0.5 fte with funding for 12 months.
**Main Duties and Responsibilities**
Perform the following activities in conjunction with and under the guidance of the Principal Investigator (PI):
1. Assist and contribute to predetermined, prescribed or individual/joint research objectives, under supervision of the Principal Investigator (PI; Professor Rory O’Connor) and in accordance with project deliverables and SHW research strategy.
2. Undertake scoping and literature reviews and analyses of data as appropriate to the role.
3. Develop and enhance your research profile and reputation and that of the University of Glasgow, School of Health and Wellbeing, including contributing to publications of international quality in high profile/quality refereed journals, enhancing the research impact in terms of economic/societal benefit and gathering indicators of esteem.
4. Document research output including analysis and interpretation of all data, maintaining records and databases ensuring compliance with GDPR, drafting progress reports and papers as required.
5. Contribute to the presentation of work at international and national conferences, at internal and external seminars, colloquia and workshops, and other groups as directed by the PI, in order to develop and enhance our research profile.
6. Contribute to the identification of potential funding sources and assist in the development of proposals to secure funding from internal and external bodies to support future research.
7. Collaborate with colleagues and participate in team/group meetings/seminars/workshops across the School of Health and Wellbeing and wider community (e.g. academic and industrial partners).
8. Perform administrative tasks related to the activities of the SBRL and other projects as required.
9. Contribute to outreach and recruitment activities of the University of Glasgow.
10. Keep up to date with current knowledge and recent advances in the field /discipline.
11. Engage in personal, professional and career development to enhance both specialist and transferable skills in accordance with desired career trajectory.
12. Undertake any other reasonable duties as assigned by the Director of the School of Health and Wellbeing
13. To contribute to the enhancement of the University’s international profile in line with the University’s Strategic Plan - Inspiring People - Changing the World.

**Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience**
**Knowledge/Qualifications**
**Essential**:
A2. Theoretical and practical knowledge in the research related field.
A3. Up to date and comprehensive knowledge of current issues in suicide research and prevention.
A4. Knowledge of specialist IT software, as appropriate.
**Desirable**:
B1 Working towards or completed PhD (SCQF level 12) in the research related field.

E1. Sufficient breadth and/or depth of knowledge in working with the study population in a range of settings and of research/teaching methods and techniques, demonstrated through relevant work experience (including experience gained throughout MSc/PhD)
E2. Experience in the collection and analysis of data, including experience using statistical software.
E3. Experience of writing and presenting of quantitative data.
E4. Proven ability to deliver quality outputs in a timely and efficient manner
E5. Evidence of an emerging track record of publications in a relevant field
