We have 2 exciting opportunities to join University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust as the Head of Business Partnering.

The post holder is responsible for the management and performance of the Business Partnering function provided to a portfolio of Operational Divisions. The role will involve providing high quality financial leadership working closely alongside the operational and clinical team to support delivery of the Trust objectives.

Reporting directly to the Assistant Director of Finance, the post holder will be a key member of the Finance Team and support the Assistant Director in ensuring that the use of resources is both understood and maximised. In addition the postholder will deputise for the Assistant Director of Finance, as appropriate, providing leadership and demonstrating expert accounting and business knowledge, analytical support and clear presentation of complex financial and other information to clinical and non-clinical colleagues. They will constructively and positively challenge all aspects of the financial and business performance of the Trust and local ICS.

This role will support with enhancing relationships between finance and clinical and non-clinical teams in financial performance management, use of resources, cost improvement development, financial planning and education.

The post holder will manage a team of accountants; ensuring the provision of effective partnering to a defined portfolio of Divisions/Directorates of the Trust; by ensuring that the teams are capable of and undertake to:

- Support and influence strategic and operational decisions
- Interpret, explain and drive financial performance
- Analyse, advise on and mitigate financial risk in the organisation
- Promote an environment of strong financial control within the Trust and challenge non-compliance and/or behaviour that disregards the Trust’s financial principles, procedures and policies
- Create a culture of performance management within the Finance Division that seeks and finds solutions to financial problems and maximises financial opportunities.

1. Responsible for delivery of the senior partnering function providing future focussed decision support, technical financial advice, business intelligence and reports to management to enable them to effectively manage resources for their area of responsibility.
2. Building effective relationships, internally and externally, to effectively influence and challenge performance, strategy, decision-making and outcomes.
3. Lead the use of financial and operational management information to review, assess and forecast unit performance. Lead the production of multi-layer forecasts of Trust financial performance at all points in time, ensuring
incorporation of the effects of all risks, opportunities and actions being taken across the Trust.
4. Identifies and highlights quickly and appropriately any evidence and/or risk of divergence from financial plans, targets or forecasts at any level in the Trust and work with management to develop mitigations to return performance to plan/forecast.
5. Responsible for the monthly review of the Trust’s financial performance at all levels within deadlines and make recommendations on actions to ensure that financial performance meets targets and is fully understood and agreed by relevant stakeholders.
6. Support the Director of Finance and Chief Financial Officer to hold divisions and corporate directorate budget holders to account through formal periodic reviews of all financial performance.
7. Corporate reporting including identification and quantification of risk - responsible for compiling and agreeing with other senior finance staff the content of Board, Sustainability Committee, Trust Executive Committee and other internal reports.
8. Supporting the month end process.
