**Job summary**:
We are seeking a dynamic and motivated person to join the Negotiations Coherence team which works centrally across the UK’s international trade programme.

The Negotiations Coherence team sits within the Trade Policy, Implementation and Negotiations Group (TPIN). Our team works across DBT, Whitehall and beyond to ensure that the UK achieves the best outcomes in trade negotiations - a key priority for the Secretary of State for Business and Trade.

As a Trade Agreement Best Practice Adviser, you will play an important role in supporting the team’s work to develop a culture of continuous improvement in UK trade negotiations. Through effective internal and external engagement, the post holder will make a significant contribution to ensuring best practice is recorded and followed throughout the negotiation lifecycle. This will involve leading lessons learned exercises with a range of teams and developing insights that will enhance our approach to future UK trade negotiations. You will own the team’s guidance documents with primary responsibility for ensuring best practice is regularly reviewed and that guidance remains relevant and useful for negotiating teams. You will focus primarily on Free Trade Agreement negotiations but also support work to ensure that best practice in other trade policy work is properly considered and reflected in best practice guidance.

The role will be suited to a self-starter who wants to work across a broad range of projects and is able to balance short-term priorities alongside longer-term strategic work. It will offer significant exposure to different areas of the organisation, opportunities for ownership and delivery of solutions, as well as close working with seniors.

You will join our expert, agile, and supportive team that takes pride in ensuring that the UK’s trade policy operates effectively, innovatively, and strategically.

**Job description**:
As a Trade Agreement Best Practice Adviser you will:

- Play a key role in driving forward the team’s continuous improvement work, ensuring key lessons from previous trade negotiations are captured and implemented across DBT.

- Develop and manage productive relationships with colleagues from across the department to keep track of live issues across the Department’s work programme.
- Undertake project work on a range of areas, problem solving with relevant teams on urgent issues, and preparing reports and advice for senior decision making.
- Support the wider team in any other policy or corporate activities as necessary.

- An ability to build and maintain strong networks and relationships with colleagues to deliver in a complex and fast paced environment.

- Strong written and verbal communication skills, comfortable working with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
