- Job description- We are recruiting for a Senior Environment Officer for 2 years to help ensure that all our Environment Management staff are ready to respond effectively to serious and significant environmental incidents to keep communities safe and prevent serious harm to the environment.
This role has a clear people-focus, requiring strong communication and influencing skills. It combines fast-paced, reactive tasks with steady, planned activities and requires excellent organisation and prioritisation skills. You should understand and be able to demonstrate your ability and commitment, to ensuring that the importance of protecting the health and safety of our staff during incident response work remains second to none.
You will play an important role in planning for, responding to, and recovering from environment incidents in Solent and South Downs Area (SSD). You will be a mentor and advisor to team members across the SSD Area, providing high level advice, supporting and coaching to Environment Management Officers across a range of teams. You will be expected to keep an overview of technical resilience and rostering, nurturing a supportive duty officer team and helping people feel invested in, by procuring the right tools, maintaining procedures and delivering training.
Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.

- Experience/skills required- You must be able to demonstrate behaviours that embody equality, diversity and inclusion and can motivate and enthuse a diverse range of people.
You will be able to demonstrate most or all of the following:

- Excellent communication and influencing skills
- Excellent prioritisation and organisational skills to cope with reactive workloads and the ability to adapt quickly in the face of unforeseen events
- Experience in leading a team or project and have the ability to coach/mentor others
- Experience of or the ability to provide training to staff using common software packages
- Experience of working in collaboration with other agencies and partnership; working - Experience of environmental incident preparedness and response would be helpful but is not essential
You will act as an ambassador, both internally and externally, with regard to the Environment Agency’s incident response role.
