Lead Associate - CPIA Disclosure Officer

What does this job involve?
- Leading our most significant and complex disclosure exercises (Tier 1), in line with the overall management strategy set by the Project Manager.
- Perform a variety of strategic and disclosure management roles across a portfolio of investigations. This includes both direct management and operational control of disclosure exercises within the case portfolio and strategic responsibility for cases when required.
- Overseeing and managing the work of Associates and Paralegals and ensuring effective progression of the exercise to reach timely outcomes. This includes providing technical guidance on the substance of disclosure exercises and strategic direction and support, escalating issues to the manager and senior management where necessary.
- Taking decisions on disclosure exercises in line with the statutory framework, Codes of Practice and associated guidelines as well as with internal policy. Preparing for and presenting on progress at project boards.
- Overseeing the drafting of documents and preparation of schedules of the unused material in preparation for trial and responsibility for the integrity of the schedules.
- Building, leading and maintaining effective working relationships with colleagues in other business areas within the FCA and with external bodies.
- Play a key role in the operation and strategy of the CDU.

Required proven experience in a specific technical area or skill:

- A minimum 10 years PQE, with a valid practising certificate issued by the Solicitors Regulation Authority for England and Wales (if a solicitor), or the General Council of the Bar for England and Wales (if a barrister) (or a similar internationally recognised qualification).
- Experienced in developing a disclosure or project strategy including identifying key risks and putting in place steps to mitigate those risks, splitting the project into relevant workstreams and planning required resource.
- Essential criteria_

Required role-specific know-how, skills and behaviours
- Excellent working knowledge of criminal investigations, law and procedures generally and, in particular, a good working knowledge of UK criminal disclosure law, Codes of Practice, associated guidance and procedures.
- Proven experience in leading disclosure exercises/litigation strands in large and complex cases.
- Ability to assess and analyse voluminous and data-heavy bodies of evidence in complex cases, exercising judgement on the evidence and being able to defend those judgements where appropriate, including to senior management.
- Skilful communicator, capable of presenting analysis clearly and effectively to a variety of recipients, orally and in writing.
- Ability to influence internal and external stakeholders and working constructively with decisions made by others, including when disagreeing with the decision made.
- Ability to form and maintain effective working relationships with peers, management, internal and external stakeholders across the organisation and external agencies.
- Desirable criteria_

- In depth experience of leading large scale disclosure exercises.
- Significant experience of managing disclosure teams.
- Proven interpersonal skills in building and maintain effective working relationships with senior internal and external stakeholders.
- Good technical ability with the use of case management systems and evidence review platforms.
