Band 6 Mental Health Clinical Advisor (Nurse or Social Worker) role - Force Control Centre (FCC)

East London Foundation Trust (ELFT) is working in collaboration with Bedfordshire Police to deliver an innovative mental health response across Bedfordshire and Luton that brings together Police and Mental Health Services based in the Mental Health Hub at Police Headquarters. This service is seeking a registered professional to join the multi-agency team, working alongside Police staff and a wide range of partner agencies, service users and carers.

This team requires someone who embraces collaborative working with partner agencies, service users and carers and who has a keen interest in working alongside Police, other public sector and voluntary organisations.

The role presents an exciting opportunity to be part of a unique service, wanting you to use innovative approaches to support in the early detection and intervention for people experiencing mental health crisis. As part of the Mental Health Hub, this role will be managed by the Operational Lead of the Mental Health Hub, with supervision being offered via the practitioners based within the Mental Health Street Triage team.

The key functions of the Mental Health Clinical Advisor role is to provide
- Telephone based triage, seated in the force control centre of the police headquarters, offering assessment and signposting to relevant services to provide follow up for the service users presenting with mental health needs at the time of their contact with Police;
- Advice, support and consultation to police colleagues regarding the management of calls from people who are presenting with mental health needs;
- Act as a clinical resource to service users, carers and police colleagues;
- Supervision and training to FCC and other police based colleagues to promote and raise awareness of mental health;
- Work in collaboration with third sector partner agencies, which also provide input to Bedfordshire Police;

The post holder is required to work as part of a multi-agency team within the FCC and to provide high-quality, evidence-based mental health related intervention that is responsive, effective, safe, caring and well led. You will have an in-depth knowledge and understanding of the distinction between mental distress and the recognition of the signs and symptoms of a mental health relapse or mental health crisis. Utilising professional judgement, supported by evidence based national guidance and knowledge of local resources, you will be responsible for supporting positive outcomes for service users and carers with mental health needs who come into contact with police via 101, 999 or as a victim of crime.
