The role

Are you an effective leader, with the ability to motivate and inspire a team to deliver a high-quality Postgraduate Admissions service and provide outstanding customer service to prospective students and internal stakeholders?

We are seeking a Head of Postgraduate Admissions to manage the Postgraduate Admissions (PG) Service, who can work effectively and collaboratively with both academic and professional service colleagues to ensure continuous improvement to maximise the recruitment of UK and International students. As Newcastle University is home to 28,000 students, welcoming over 4,000 new Postgraduate students each year, from over 146 countries, the role will involve working with a diverse customer and stakeholder base.

Key Accountabilities
- Developing and reviewing policies and processes relating to postgraduate admissions to ensure fairness, fitness for purpose and compliance with new Government or other external requirements.
- Providing induction, training, staff development, guidance and direction on necessary tasks, ensuring the team know how their role contributes to the University’s Student Recruitment Strategy.
- Managing the PG Admissions team budget, including monitoring and reporting.
- Annual planning and review to ensure continuous quality improvement against SMART objectives.
- Direct line management responsibility for PG Admissions Manager.

2. Ensure continuous progress is made with the Dynamic Admissions System, working with internal stakeholders including;
- The management and support of Admissions team members working on the development of the project.
- Prioritise backlog requirements, forward plan and specify requirements ready for future sprint.
- Make decisions relating to the development product on a day-to-day basis. Responsibility for final accept or reject of re-design of business processes and work done as part of each sprint.
- Act as an escalation point for business issues, attending sprint planning, review meetings on behalf of the business.
- Provide appropriate training and develop training manuals on the new system, to better support new and existing members of staff.
- Work with Admissions Team Managers and Team Leaders to manage business as usual to ensure that there is no impact on the applicant experience or University recruitment objectives.

4. Maintain a cross-faculty and cross-University perspective, working closely with the Director and Deputy Director of Student Recruitment and Admissions, PG Deans, selectors, faculty recruitment managers and other key stakeholders to:

- Horizon scan to keep abreast of external issues / policies/ good practice elsewhere which may impact and/or improve our approach to PG admissions (eg UK Visas and Immigration issues).
- Develop appropriate training for selectors and admissions staff to ensure coherence and consistency in the University’s approach to admissions and recruitment.
- Monitor and review offer making strategies, in-cycle progress against plans and implement changes and mitigations as required.
- Understand the needs, priorities and challenges faced by faculties and schools in recruiting PG students and provide support as required.
