The Parliamentary Questions team sits within the Private Office, Intelligence and Parliamentary division. It is responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of the PQ process, so that the Department can meet its obligations to Parliament.

This is a friendly and supportive team that works closely with ministerial offices, special advisers and Parliament.

**Job description**:
We are looking for an Assistant Parliamentary Officer to work as part of the Parliamentary Questions (PQ) team processing written answers to MPs and peers.

The two Assistant Parliamentary Officers in the team are responsible for sending all PQs to Minister’s offices for clearance and when the answers are cleared, submitting them on Hansard to the MP who has asked the question.

You will work directly with another AO on this ‘dispatch’ function and work is shared between you both. You will have a specific ‘dispatch’ manager to whom you can escalate problems and questions, as well as a supportive wider PQ team where everyone is cross trained to provide support at elevated times of activity. As part of this role involves the printing and delivery of PQs, there will be a requirement to be in the office two to three days per week to help directly support these tasks

The postholder will also play a part in the wider Parliamentary Affairs, Intelligence, Insight & Engagement team, and there are opportunities to gain exposure to other areas; like MP engagement, Parliament, and ministerial visits if that would be of interest. It would be an exciting next step for anyone who is looking to challenge themselves and further their Parliamentary knowledge.

**Person specification**:
**Key responsibilities will include**:

- Creating daily reports on the status of PQs
- Sending PQs for Office Managers and Ministers to clear
- Submitting answers to Hansard
- Printing PQs and delivering them to ministerial offices
- Occasional other duties within the team as required

Full training will be provided for all relevant systems and processes.

**Key skills and experience required for the role**

The role will require high attention to detail, excellent communication skills (both written and oral), and the ability to build constructive relationships across both this Department, and others.

In terms of experience, it is not essential but would be helpful to have experience of Parliamentary work.
