**Summary** of the role:
Reporting to the Canteen Team Leader the canteen assistant will help provide a safe food service for the business.
This is a hands-on role, and involves standing for most of the working day, with some moderate bending, lifting and using canteen equipment as part of basic manual handling.
Training will be provided to cover the **key duties **of the role which are:
- Safely preparing basic food items (fruit salad, sandwiches, buffets)
- Stocking food vending machine and drinks fridge and checking sell by dates.
- Keeping the canteen dining area clean and tidy.
- Helping with the day-to-day running of the kitchen, washing up, serving at the counter and using the till.
- Caring for and correctly using food preparation equipment, including reporting any damages or faults to the Team Leader.
- Working and following procedures in line with food safety and Health & Safety at Work Regulations.
**Skills & experience**:
Experience working within a catering environment is preferred but not required
Basic understanding of Food Hygiene requirement would be ideal
Basic cooking skills would be ideal
Level 2 Award in Food Safety would be ideal
Good communication skills required
Ability to multi-task, meet deadlines and work under pressure
