Clinical To undertake advanced, holistic physiotherapy assessments and formulate comprehensive treatment plans for service users with complex mental health and physical health problems. Be aware of individual service user history, background & culture, and to take this into account in order to formulate and implement treatment plans collaboratively with the service user. Lead by example, setting and maintaining a high standard of clinical practice. Evaluate the effectiveness of Physiotherapy interventions and quality of clinical decision making in conjunction with service users/carers and other professionals.

Identify any significant clinical risk factors in line with local policies, with support from senior managers. Be responsible for equipment used, ensuring that all departmental policies are adhered to, ensuring safe use by other staff and service users. Act as a resource for any individual, professional body or outside agency that may seek specialist clinical knowledge or information about Physiotherapy in Mental Health. Adhere to any clinical standards and guidelines produced by the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy or other relevant Special Interest Groups (e.g.

CPMH / AGILE). Plan and prioritise the caseload of more junior staff and students where necessary. Communication To demonstrate effective communication and interpersonal skills in a wide range of situations to enable and encourage service users to access physiotherapy interventions, especially when there are barriers to engagement requiring an empathetic, reassuring and sometimes persuasive approach. Work as a member of the inter-professional team, attending meetings and contributing to decisions regarding the care and treatment of service users; being actively involved in wards rounds, care plan reviews, and discharge planning meetings as required.

Communicate effectively and sensitively with carers. Liaise promptly and appropriately with outside agencies (e.g. liaison psychiatry, social services, acute sector colleagues) as required. Documentation To maintain accurate, comprehensive and timely treatment records in line with CSP standards of practice and Trust policies, and to supervise junior and student physiotherapists record keeping to the same standards.

Ensure own & supervisees electronic documentation and activity data are maintained in accordance with Professional (CSP) and Trust documentation standards. Actively engage in the Trusts incident reporting system. Professional Ethics To determine each service-users understanding of the proposed intervention to ensure valid consent is gained, and to understand and work within a legal framework with those who lack the capacity to consent to treatment. Adhere to the CSP code of conduct, HCPC requirements for registration, the Trusts Code of Conduct and all other relevant policies and procedures related to professional behaviour.

Adhere to NICE guidelines or SIG recommendations for good practice where available. Demonstrate appropriate professional behaviours at all times. Leadership, learning and development To provide professional leadership for the physiotherapy team. Display self-belief (confidence to achieve the best outcomes) and self-awareness (knowing own strengths, weaknesses & the impact of behaviour on others). Demonstrate self-management, managing own emotions and displaying resilience in complex/demanding situations. Display motivation/drive for performance improvement & be able to make a real difference to others.

Demonstrate a high level of personal integrity with a commitment to openness, honesty, inclusive behaviour, loyalty & high standards in the leadership role. Demonstrate ability to lead change through people (communicating the vision & rationale for change). Facilitate others to manage a busy caseload, including effective clinical cover across hospital sites and the response to urgent referrals. Review and reflect on your own practice and performance through effective use of professional supervision and PADR process.

This will include holding others to account for agreed targets and empowering others to contribute to service improvement. Supervise physiotherapy students, including evaluation of competency and placement performance. Participate in the induction, training and clinical education of other students and Trust staff as required. Participate in the departments in-service training programme.

Be responsible for maintaining all mandatory Trust training up to date. Delegate and execute general administrative and co-ordination tasks as required for the smooth running of the service.
