Trainee Internal Auditor

Enfield, United Kingdom Enfield Council Full time

This is an exciting opportunity to join a busy, well respected and friendly Internal Audit team in a newly created apprenticeship role. As well as learning about how Internal Audit works in a large organisation, you will have a unique chance to learn about the many aspects of how a modern council operates, something not commonly found in most other roles.

**About the Role**

Now is a great time to be joining Internal Audit in local government. The sector has gone through unprecedented change over the last few years. With change and new ways of working comes different risks that a council needs to manage. Internal Audit is right at the heart of supporting organisations to help mitigate these risks, through timely assurance provided in innovative way, using data and technology where possible.

You will review frontline and back office services (e.g. finance) helping to provide an opinion of the effectiveness of the control framework and risk mitigations in to areas to a range of stakeholders including senior management and councillors.

You will spend 20% of your working hours gaining skills and knowledge to work towards the Level 4 Internal Audit Practitioner Apprenticeship. This will typically include on-line learning, attending workshops, webinars, coaching or shadowing.

This is a hybrid role with some office days as we feel these are important to support you as an apprentice learning new skills.

The role is with the Cross Council Assurance Service (CCAS). This is a service in which PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) in contract with several public service organisations provides internal audit, assurance and advisory services under a framework contract. There are over 40 public service organisations in this agreement including local authorities, housing associations and NHS bodies.

You will be part of a group of trainee local authority internal auditors and will be given support by us, the apprenticeship training provider MBKB and your fellow trainees.

This year 5 local authorities are recruiting to a post within each authority. In addition to the London Borough of Enfield, the other authorities are the Royal Borough of Greenwich, the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, the London Borough of Lewisham and Southend-on-Sea City Council. You will find further details on their websites.

**About You**

Your excellent communication and interpersonal skills will be key for the regular interaction with colleagues from across the Council at all levels of seniority.
