Centrica Energy Marketing & Trading (EM&T) is the trading arm of Centrica. We trade LNG, gas, power and energy attributes - and connect independent producers, suppliers and corporate off-takers in the wholesale energy markets.

We are recruiting for a Trade Surveillance Officer who will work closely within our Ethics & Compliance team to perform monitoring and surveillance of trading activity and electronic communications.

The role is London based (close to Marble Arch) but with an element of hybrid working.

**The Job role**:
The role holder will be expected to make a strong contribution towards the design, implementation and maintenance of the monitoring and surveillance programme. Key areas will include:

- Operating under a high degree of regulatory scrutiny from regulators and exchanges in the wholesale traded markets in areas such as REMIT, EMIR, MAR, MiFID II and exchange/trading venue rules
- The role will have significant interaction with the firm’s trading and origination business as well as the firm’s support and control functions
- Identify and follow up on instances of poor market conduct, including potential instances of market abuse, to ensure compliance with regulatory, exchange and internal policy requirements
- Maintenance of appropriate records and documentation including the creating of file notes
- Support the development, testing, calibration and implementation of surveillance systems and processes that operationalise compliance with internal or external regulatory and exchange compliance requirements
- Identify issues or improvements for resolution with internal teams and/or 3rd party vendors
- Supporting the preparation of management reporting
- Support Requests for Information (RFI) and investigations where required
- Delivering training where required
- Although London based the role is expected to extend to cover monitoring and surveillance of other locations in the longer term.

**The Person**:

- Some experience in trade surveillance and monitoring
- Experienced user of office, monitoring and surveillance technology and ability to analyse data using a variety of tools
- Show evidence of clear analytical thinking and be capable of carrying out detailed analysis of trading data and communications
- Get to the heart of complex operational problems and issues
- Quickly learn new technologies
- Communicate well in writing and demonstrate a high-level of attention to detail
- Ability to be flexible, working as part of a team and independently where required.
