Due to internal progression we have an exciting opportunity for a Finance Business Partner to join our busy Finance & Procurement Department.

Our Finance Business Partners are instrumental in the smooth running of college finances, partnering and advising our Heads of Department to ensure all funding is utilised appropriately. The partnering service includes preparing, reviewing and analysing financial information and reports, and liaising with budget holders to understand variances, identify corrective actions, and produce forecasts for the year.

**Responsibilities include**:

- Financial planning support - Undertaking monthly and quarterly forecasting of income and expenditure
- Budget Holder support
- holding monthly management account meetings with budget holders to review variances, assess in relation to non-financial data, and agree action plans to remedy variances. Review budget holder forecasts and identify sensitivities affecting variances.
- ensuring value for money is achieved
- providing support in managing budgets, including developing ad-hoc reports for budget holders and following up on queries.
- building relationships and develop an excellent understanding of the budget holder’s area of delivery to improve the understanding and quality of financial reports and commentaries.
- supporting HoDs in the development and delivery of business cases in liaison with the project team.
- Supporting the Financial Reporting Manager in the preparation of robust, accurate and timely management accounts.
- Identifying variances and items for further investigations.
- Undertaking review and quality assurance processes for the monthly accounts pack.
- Drafting written commentaries explaining variances.
- Supporting the Financial Reporting Manager in year-end processes including account reconciliation, year-end adjustment and analysis
- Analysing income, spend and cost trends across pay and non-pay areas, comparing to non-financial data and identifying opportunities for savings.
- Maintaining a good knowledge and awareness of changes in FE funding streams including ESFA and OfS. Disseminating knowledge as appropriate to staff and budget holders.

**Education & Training**
- GCSE 5 - 9 or equivalent level 2 qualification in Maths or be prepared to pass a test prior to interview to demonstrate level 2 ability and then if appointed achieve within an agreed timescale
- GCSE 5 - 9 or equivalent level 2 qualification in English or be prepared to pass a test prior to interview to demonstrate level 2 ability and then if appointed achieve within an agreed timescale
- CCAB part qualified, fully qualified is desirable but not essential

**Experience**
- Experience in a public sector organisation
- Experience of budget setting and financial planning
- Experience of producing management accounts, variance analysis and financial reporting
- Experience of participating in the preparation of year end audits
- Experience of preparing schemes and managing projects, preparing business cases and cost improvement initiatives is desirable but not essential
- Experience of writing financial commentaries is desirable but not essential
